It means the kryptonite is improperly shielded. If superman tans in your bed he will lose his powers. The electrodes and caps in the tube get very hot, hot enough to vaporize the mercury. If the lamps have some hours on them the phoshpors that normally glow white may start to wear off. The hot electrodes then become visible and the retained heat after shut down is enough to vaporize a small amount of mercury, or the capacitor theory may be correct. I would meter them and if the lamps are still producing don't worry about it. I would start charging extra for the "afterglow" which allows a customer to relax and slowly return to the hustle and bustle of daily life
