Too much effort and that is covered in their training.
Say, "I'll be right with you as soon as I am done with this customer," and set the phone on the counter.
In a few minutes, you'll hear the loud "beep-beep-beep-beep..." indicating they have hung up.
Sometimes progress is wasting more of the unwanted solicitor's time. Fewer calls per hour are made and everyone wins but them.
