Default Family Day

What is the law behind this holiday? Do we have to close or is it optional?

I find this very confusing. Stores in Toronto are exempt, but the rest of the province is not? The drug stores & some grocery stores here are open with shortened hours, others are closed completely. It seems to not have any rhyme nor reason.

I'd prefer to open, but according the the retail sales act I have to close. Monday is usually our busiest day. Does anybody understand why the drug stores & grocery stores can open?

I think Sask. has this same holiday... how do salon owners there handle it?

Retails sales act says you can be open because you have less than xxx # of employees. We are open every day but xmas. Most retail will be open, fedral services will be open.Aprox 40% of the work force will be working on mguintee's new bs holiday,so be OPEN if you want.

We are almost fully booked today at all stores for today (Feb 18th). Might not be a huge amount of sales, but getting tans used up is always good too.

But we are only open 12-5 also.
