| Rookie Join Date: Feb 2008 Location: Toronto, Canada Posts: 4 | SunScare was written for the layperson, to give a broad overview of the subject - Sunlight,Vitamin D and Health . It also documents and explains the many conflicting and contradictory issues attached to exposure to ultraviolet light from the sun or from sunbeds. The scientific and technical specifications are easy to understand and provide a counterfoil to the fear campaigns of the past 25 years that advise sun avoidance. Many of the anti-sun campaigns have included statements that are false, deceptive, misleading and scientifically unsubstantiated ( you knew that, didn't you ). OCCASIONALLY , some of these falsehoods are acknowledged such as the written admissions of Health Canada and the Canadian Cancer Society ( see attachments at the end of SunScare ). But NOBODY told the public ! ( see page 33 to learn " What Did NOT Happen"). In Canada, in order to publicize these admissions of guilt, the report was sent to every member and every associate member of the House of Commons Standing Committee on Health. Copies were also sent to Government leaders, Health authorities, Canadian Cancer Society and many others. Further, SunScare requested the Standing Committee to initiate a Royal Commission to investigate the FRAUD of SunScare. The purpose of a Royal Commission is not to find fault or fix blame, but rather to discover the true facts of issues that are of importance to the Canadian Public. The SunScare fraud qualifies due to the huge negative impact on the public of the resulting hardship of illness, disability, death, economic burden and more. ( see page 3 for details. to estimate these statistics for the USA, multiply the numbers by 10, except for the waiting times. They do not apply in the USA). A Royal Commission has the power to authoritativly separate scientific fact from myth, marketing hype and twisted science. I encourage you to send a letter or e-mail to the Standing Committee as per the information on pages 61-62 of the report. Thank you. The SunScare report is NOT copywrited in order to ensure the widest possible distribution. If you do not have a copy please go to : http://www.uvalux.com/documents/Crim...y2008_0522.pdf It is important to remember that indoor tan salons are not allowed to make medical claims or give medical advice relating to sunbeds. However it is permissable in Canada to advertise and promote the fact that SUNBEDS MAKE VITAMIN D NATURALLY . Many salons in the USA also promote the fact that UVB makes vitamin D. This is a biological fact. Robbie Segler of Darque Tan is broadly advertising this fact and I agree with him that stating a biological fact is NOT giving health or medical advice. We have to rely on the Vitamin D scientists and researchers to tell the public what vitamin D does. That is why it is a good idea to give out research papers and news articles by doctors and scientists. Then it is the DOCTOR that makes the health statements about what Vitamin D does .... not you! If you have any questions or suggestions, please contact me at mshpur@vitamindsociety.org Mo |
