Default I NEED A NEW COMPUTER! Suggestions?

I need to get a new computer ASAP. Tired of replacing hard drives and boards and viruses. I run Helios 11.6 and use the internet frequently. Any suggestions?

I have purchased mine from Tigerdirect . Not knowing your computer knowledge is, you can save some money by putting it together yourself by getting what you need and then some.

If you do not want to deal with Vista which all new computers that are preassembled are, Tiger offers XP SP3 oem for $150.

I myself love the asus motherboards, 4 gb memory (3) 300gb sata drives, NVidia Geforce 7300 GS video card, 10 USB ports, 2 firewire ports. This unit works fine for me.

Your situation could be completely different then mine.

Run from Dell.

IBM - no bad. Sony is nice. Don't want a virus? Go Apple, but Helios would have to run in emulation so that rules Apple out.

You'll find everybody has different opinions on computers. For example, I love Dell...had them for years both professionally and personally with no problems. Unity hates Dell. Tanmantans suggests building your own, but some people can screw that up bad if they don't know what they are doing.

Go the manufacturer websites and take a look at the different models. Find some that interests you, and then Google for user feedback from others that have them. You'll find for every person that loves it, you'll find somebody that hates it.

Do some research on the company's warranty repairs. Just about anything made nowdays will eventually run into a problem. Most of the manufacturers will offer same day or next day on-site repair options. It can be salty in price for this kind of warranty, but if this is your primary POS system in your salon, find something that's going to get fixed quickly, in case it's needed.

If you want to have a custom built computer, check out some of the computer forums like 2cpu.com, anandtech.com, hardforum.com for reviews of the components that you are interested in.

I'm a big believer in redudancy. To me, 2 is 1, and 1 is none. If the budget supports it, either look into getting two computers and backup to the other one frequently, or look into a RAID 5 solution for your data protection.
