If you buy the right phone [i did not] you can also send "mass" text to all of the clients.

Include a coupon that can redeemed at any of the salons included on the advertisement....

Direct mail....

Working with them to make the industry stronger could be a win for all. I have worked with my comp in the past in some advertising, but we all had our own space included. I'm talking about generalizing things, including a logo for each, one coupon.

One of my comps is pretty nice the other might take some convincing, if I can bite my tongue during his rudeness.

I'm in a location that has a significant amount of car traffic driving by. I want to take advantage of that with some funny creative advertising for a large banner space I have.

Many of you have some creative minds so I wanted to throw some of the services out to you and see what everyone can come up with when we start to take advantage of this. I want a bold headline that will get attention, be creative and get people talking.

Here are some of the ideas so far. What ideas do you have?

1. Got Fat?
Easy Fat Loss Here!

2. Euro Tanning
Because Tan Fat Looks Better Than White Fat
3. Yellow Teeth?
Affordable Teeth Whitening Here!

4. Stop Looking Old!

I'm looking for any others that you might have for the above and possibly for some of the other services listed below.

5. Spray Tanning (Mystic)
6. Massage
7. Hydration & Alpha Spa Capsule - (Skin Hydration & Dry Sauna)

Hey Everyone! - Opened in the middle August of JASON and only hit $1500 in sales for October (HUGE deficet)...

Did a decent amount of advertising, community book, website www.sunbrighttanning.com, 6,000 targeted post cards (free week), 300 people on the facebook fan page - and location was a former tanning salon (with not the greatest rep). Am working more on the website, mailers and in-store marketing / specials.

It's hard to stay positive when such a large financial GAP exists - we are only tanning about 15-20 people a day (its hard to think that just to break even we'll need to tan at least 400% more). Obviously I'll need to market heavy into the "busy" season - but does it really just start to naturally pick up?

I feel like I'm waiting for an "ON" switch that will never get flipped. This is my first year, but does the volume usually and naturally pick up by 400% at most salons from October to Feb, march, april?

BIG QUESTION:

From a cash flow perspective - percentage wise, what do your sales drop to in the months of SEPT> OCT> and NOV in comparision to your peak month(s) of the "busy season".

Just trying to figure out how all this works, and trying to prepare myself to be ready for what to anticipate.

Thanks as always for your input!!

Our competitors across the street; a national chain, just put out their latest ad campaign. One month unlimited in any bed $9.00 a month, buy one mystic and get one free.

How does continually devaluing our product help even in a down economy? How are they going to get clients to pay 'regular' prices later or after the offer is over? I am not sure what the requirements are to get this special, but still in my opinion this type of special tells the public that tanning is not worth very much.

Just wanted to dedicate a Marketing/Advertising thread to the most effective and impactful strategies outside of online. presence

To put this marketing/ad plan in perspective - it's taken place during the beginning
life cycle of my business. I've only been open for 2 months. All critisms are welcome -
and I hope we can share good suggestions for improvement or new ideas all
together. They are needed - I'm FAR from where I need to be right now. :)

So far:

1. 6,000 one week free unlimited promo cards - first 1,500 sent to predecessor POS client database. Next 4,500 (1,500 out per week), will go to a lifestyle targeted demo. mailing list within 3 miles of the location.

**I know I'll get yelled at by someone for the free week - let me explain - My thought is the free week gets them in the door - a free tan, I assume, has a lower "hit" ratio, so you get less customer facing opportunities and exposure. And a free week, really equates to on average 2-3 free tans, as opposed to just one - so maybe still a worth while effort/expense? The point is to get the local demo of potential tanners in - and if you have the service to keep them there, retain as many as possible and of course do it by out shining the comp.

***total cost to print, address and mail all 6,000 (front and back glossy, 4.25X6") = $1,940

2. Table Vendor at a 5k and wellness fair tomorrow - anticipated only about 750 to
show because of the weather, but setting up the chair massage, as well as doing a
raffle for a bundle of lotion/tanning products, and one month unlimited "gold" level tanning.
Low to nill table cost - hoping to help with branding.

***similar vendor/table invite at a local gym as well.

3. H road signs, placed saying "tanning now open" with phone number, logo and arrow
in the direction of the salon (can only put up on the weekends, or the city repo's em) :)

4. NOW OPEN sign centered on front window - 2'X4'

5. Free week promo cards placed at neighbor nail salon, as well as passed out
with free week business cards etc

6. Sponsored ad ($234) to be front in center, with our promo for the local high
schools football large season calendar. Similarly, sponsored a marching band event,
for ($60) to reinforce the name at the school.

Aside from the online strategies in play, here are some other
Ideas pending:

*Valupak or similar mailer advertising

*Email / text message marketing - if this is effective, what are the best tools
and strategies to execute?

*Mayor/Ribbon Cutting -with newspaper write up.

*Have manager an active member in the chamber, and get involved with events.

*Joint grand opening with neighbor sports bar right before high season
(early March) - advertised with maybe another newspaper article/post card mailing.

*Co-promote with local businesses, gyms, restaurants, nail/hair salons (any other ideas)
- and put their promo cards into each welcome bag that all my members recieve (with lotion
packets, upgraded goggles, etc).

The list could go on - but I'd rather shut up and learn what makes the biggest impact. Please be hard on these ideas, I love to see the flaws in anything I'm trying to implement and I'm sure we could all benefit from the input. Thank you!

Roger

Hey Guys - Just wanted to lay out what I've done with my online marketing/ad presence and maybe share a few ideas, as well as take a few suggestions for improvement.

There are hundreds of ways to promote so I thought it would be more effective to dedicate this thread to strive towards a "perfect" and most impactful online presence.

1. Website www.tansunbright.com & www.sunbrighttanning.com both
direct to the site. Have listed a few metatags on here for SEO, but could use
more - and maybe advice for better search engine visibility?

2. Facebook - www.facebook.com/sunbrighttanning (at 43 fans to date) -
not sure how to add the local area potential tanning demographic without paying?
Looks like you have to add the fan onto your personal page before they are
added onto the business fansite part?

3. Myspace - www.myspace.com/sunbrighttanning (at around 47 friends) - friend
adding advice helpful on here as well?

4. Twitter - www.twitter.com/sunbrighttan (at 7 followers) Any advice on utilizing this
to the max and getting the name out to more people would be appreciated.

5. Yourcommunity - paid $514 for online listing and phonebook ad - www.yourcommunity.com
-not sure if this was money well spent.

6. www.Merchantcircle.com - signed up and completed free listing, still need
to get "verified" to increase ranking/exposure.

7. www.superpages.com - signed up for the free listing, completed the info -
offers pay per click, worth the investment? If so, how do you position yourself
to take full advantage of this resource?

Also - the previous salon has all of their old online listings in various places still
up with the phone numbers (I kept the same phone number as they had) - is
there anything I can do to get this taken off and avoid confusion.
My predecessor didn't have the best rep in the world.

Any other effective ways to make your presence known and stir more buzz/drive more traffic would be very appreciated... Let me know! I'll be posting another thread for other forms of advertising/marketing outside of the online presence.
