Just got a 5.0 solarmeter, and I'm just wondering how to use it. i.e. how far away from the lamps do I hold it, what parts do I measure, with to without acrylics etc.

Basically a short version of "Solarmeters for Dummies"

TIA

They can get really expensive... I've seen some up to $9000. I'm obviously not going to invest that kind of money, but I recall JK sending me a real nice one that I had to leave a $1000 deposit on. I belive it lists somewhere along the lines of $2000 - $3000.

Solarmeter Steve or perhaps The Don Dada can shed some light?

Anyways, I'm looking to invest a few grand into a nice one similar to the one JK sent me. It has the sensors on two nipples, UVA and UVB... Both are covered and removed one at a time when measuring the different wavelenghts. The sensor is also attatched to a long cord, so you can close the bed and not have to to stick your arm in - leading to a digital hand held.

My main reason is because I know that the popular meters are incapable of catching certain ranges. I want to get the whole picture.

Can anyone help me out please?

Thank you
