just thought the end with the sensor had to be facing the lamps
You're right - it does.

BUT: the sensor "sees" UV coming from all over the place (almost) because it has a teflon diffuser for cosine response. Check your 10th grade geometry and physics textbooks to learn about angles - sines and cosines, etc.

Setting it on a chair or something only lets the sensor "see" straight ahead and above rays. The rays from below are blocked by the stool. Your 19 and 31 results "prove" that law of physics! Get it?

Anyway... use the 31 reading as valid. Use that as old baseline when you put in the new lamps. Then check new ones the same way... at 0 hours and again at ~25 hours when they break-in.

This is someone that wanted to place a meter on a bucket and have the bucket yell out to her in the lobby the meter readings, cuz she's scared to be in her own standup. You really think she got it?

LOLOLOL...

Sandy - just wear your avetar bikini bottom and hold the meter bottom on your belly button. Study this diagram while you are in there.... with UV-block eyewear on (not the kind you can't see through!)

Oh jeebus! I didn't want to stand it on end pointing up and if I lied it down on the base, it's pointing at the lampholders pretty much. Sooooo I wanted it elevated. AND I just wanted to put turn the bed on and put it in for 5 minutes or so.

Sandy.... I forgot to mention: Your original post about how to measure a standup was a good one. Please take all our crazy remarks with a grain of salt (and a bit of healthy red wine - er... margarita(sp)). Certainly (a bit) more complicated then a bed.

About every 3 years this comes up again. Hope I can find this thread in 2011 to just copy it....
