Default Difference between models....

Hey guys I've been reading the meter posts and have come accross a few times someone saying "if you can only get one get the 7.0" why is that? What does the 7.0 do that the 5 and 6 do not? In practical terms please. I've been to the site, but it reads a little too technical for a complete noob like me. Like, I get that 5 is UVa + UVb and 6 is UVb, but when I click on 7.0 it reads like gibberish to me. Thanks.

The "gibberish" is the only way to explain what MED/hr means.

Model 5.0: browning rays (melanin oxidation tanning photons)
Model 6.0: pinking rays (melanin stimulation photons)
Model 7.0: reddening rays (burning photons)

Is that simple enuf? The lamps provide a "mix" of all three types (bandwidths).

Some people only care about the "burning rays" and their relationship to Te time to 4 MEDs. 240 / MED.hr = Te in minutes. Also good for acrylic transmission checks. But the other models are needed if people care about "tanning" rays and UVB amount or percent.

The 7.0 can do everything except give you your peak browning power. I use the 5 and 7 all the time. The 6.0 is good for keeping a spare battery.
