| Agree with starting top shelf. I have clients that look as though they can't afford a micky D's burger, but they spend for top shelf lotions and packages... Do Not Judge. My nails look like shite right now, but I can still afford a nice meal at any place I choose. Appereance isn't everything. |

| Moderator | Agreed appearance isnt everything, it just gives you an idea of the person, you have to take a look at the total package. My top shelf lotions are actually on the second shelf in my salon, the least expensive are the 4th, mid range are on the top, the middle are the newest or lotion of the week. The bottom shelf has little lotion gift bags. |

| Moderator | I go to a car lot the saleperson quickly approaches, wants to sell me the most expensive car on the lot. I tell him/her I'm just looking, if he/she would LOOK at me, they could tell if I really wanted THAT car or not. All I was saying is pay attention, body language, appearance, it all tells a story. That is Spotting your customer. |

| Moderator | No I'm not SOO but she is a friend of mine. I am saying body language, the car they drive, appearance, age, it all plays into your sales technique. Its all spotting or knowing your customer. Always start high but be aware that the person you are selling maybe able to spend more or not as much. Size them up when they come in so you have an idea what they can afford, it doesnt mean your right. You know if she is driving a Mercedes, has her makeup and hair perfect, nails freshly done, wearing the latest fashion, you can sell this lady the store if you try. If a 16 yr old bounces in the store out of a beat up pickup, wearing the latest fashions, the only way you are going to sell her is if she has daddys credit card. She has a 20 dollar bill dad gave her for gas and she is spending it on tanning. |

| Moderator | Yeah, thats how it works, how childish... Not that its any of your business, but Alan asked me to Mod before I met SOO, Her and I became friends on this site as well as a few others. Have you not met people and became friends through this site or another? I was agreeing with both of you, start at the top no matter what just know when to drop to the next shelf.... |

So it doesn't sound right. So I agree with Island Cove that is sounded like you were judging people which is why i commented on it too....however Island Cove, beating a dead horse get's you nowhere. Soo usually gives excellent information, ideas, help to everyone including to me. Regardless of how long someone has been in business in the tanning industry Business is Business and it can be used in every aspect of life and any business you do. I have had many different businesses myself that deal with customers for years like Restaurant, Variety Store, Fruit Market/Deli, Gas Station, X-Ray Ultrasound, Computer Sales and Software development and I was also Manager of Operations for one of the Largest airlines in Canada....Do any of these have anything to do with each other???? Absolutely NOT Everything that I've learned in all those businesses i've owned or ran has been incorporated into what i do everyday. Tanning Salons are not any different from any other business and to think so would be wrong. You gotta know what you are doing with all of them. Business Management/Ownership is the same in any business just a matter of adapting to that industry. Island Cove....how long Alan has been in the Tanning industry has nothing to do with his salon's success and ideas and accomplishments. I agree with everyone....YET i disagree with Everyone. So, what does this mean...everyone has their own opinion which is why we are here, to express it but not force it upon someone. That's what makes everyone unique and makes them who they are. Otherwise it would be one boring world. This is why i am who i am and say what i say and act the way i act. Cuz life is too short to stress or be pissed....enjoy the time we have on the planet as life ends very short sometimes. If nobody likes what i have to say....FAKEM This is why i have a great sence of humour and try and make people laugh, cuz it makes their day that much better. Yeah i go off on tangents and argue with people but i come back with something funny to get myself back on track. Nobody should stress over someones opinions....there is no point, life's too short. Soo, I agree with you Island Cove I agree with you too but you are both wrong!!!! So there...... __________________ ![]() www.ChronosMarketing.com ____________________________________________ The problem nowadays is stupidity. Has anyone noticed that ever since Cove got rid of her horse-teeth photo, she struts around here like the Queen of Rumania? Mind you, I don't think she is actually an evil person; maybe she has just gotten a little arrogant since her makeover. As gorgeous as I am, if anyone has a right to be arrogant it is I, and yet I remain as humble as a ghetto-dwelling nun. People love me for my humility, and Cove could take a lesson in humility from my play book. I am not suggesting that she should be banned from this site, but she should be relegated to the Canadian only forum for 6 months. __________________ Lo-Carb...apply directly to the forehead Lo-Carb...apply directly to the forehead Lo-Carb...apply directly to the forehead |

If what everyone is doing is working for them....keep on doing it. People do take things a little too pesonal on this site. It's to come and chat and share ideas. Also for shits and giggles. Lets drop it people....... Am i the only normal one on this forum... ...that's a joke people, laugh dammit. __________________ ![]() www.ChronosMarketing.com ____________________________________________ The problem nowadays is stupidity. | Rookie Join Date: Aug 2006 Location: Michigan Posts: 43 | Hi all! I am brand new to this site and I am enjoying the bits and pieces of good info that sporadically appear among the insults and ball bashing J/K!!But really, I just wanted to say, I too misunderstood the original post at first... thinking it said to size up your customer to decide what lotion to try to sell... I learned the hard way to always start with the top. To be honest, the people that come in to our salon with the nicest clothes/cars/etc. aren't the ones that buy our $95 lotion. It's usually the people I think can't afford it. My bias has actually reversed and when I see the Mercedes or Lexus pull up, I think to myself "here comes a frickin cheapskate... might as well pull out the cheap s**t" Not that that is the right attitude to have either! Now I just have a different mindset to break out of! Anyway... Soo, Alan, gottatanfl, DIN, and the rest of you, I look forward to learning alot of great tips and info from you all! (Just gotta say, I love that there is a 'where's waldo' smiley!!! ) |

| Super Star Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: will you turn on my bed now? Posts: 637 | triste, you hit it the nail right on the head! Usually That lexus owner has a huge lease payment and cant afford sh*t, usually wants a 6 month package for 20 bucks and nickle and dimes us to death. That Bag lady that tans, she buys the best stuff and never haggles with you. You just cant tell what your customer will buy till you try to sell it to them. Start at the top! I sold 4 bottles of ct7 last week for full retail and never would have guessed it by who walked in the door. Best part? I won them at a lotion seminar! They were free to me! |

Had a customer that wanted to purchase a bronzer before getting her base tan. Tried to get her to go with a different lotion but wanted that one, then after using it she said it turned her feet orange and wanted to exchange it. Suggestions???? |
