WOW,..$200k

The wife and I just opened a small, 6-bed, salon a couple of months ago. We rented what used to be a laundramat so plenty of 3-phase power. It had been split into 3 suites, we rented the center one, a realtors office...so 4 small rooms/offices already built. We add 2 more rooms for a total of 6. Rent is only
650/month, we bought only new beds, 1-SouthBeach stand-up, a SunStar 432 12 min., and 4- sunvision 28LE. T-Max manager Pro wireless timer from same place the beds came from, also Buck-Boosters.

Tore out flooring, new hardwood laminate, lots of painting, used laptop from home, Sharp XE-A102 off ebay, desk/counter from a secondhand store(it's a customer service desk from a bank...ya'll know the ones were you can fill out all your paperwork before getting in line). The A/C unit is struggling to keep up here in the hot Bama, but it'll be fine this year.

Our total investment is <$50k

we're right on a very busy highway, in a small community that is outgrowing itself at an alarming rate. Housing is still a hot market. I live next door to the mayors son, so I get all the upcoming scoop on the booming growth. The high school is walking distance.

I can't imagine investing $200k in this, but I can see in a larger market the need for a largerplace. I hope to someday outgrow the place we're at now....I'll give it 2 years here before we look for a larger place to expand.

This is not our only income, I work a full-time job while the wife,Tonya, runs this place, I'm just up here part-time now, since I done all the work(other than drywall) to get this place ready...I'm taking a bit of a break now.

I'm new here.....Ya'll wish me luck, and I'll keep in touch.

We started with a white box. Did all the build out, most of it ourselves. Paid all permits and fees to the city/state/etc. Bought 10 pieces of equipment including 3 Dr. Muellers and 2 Suncapsules, more high end stuff. Computer, cash drawer, printers, timers, flooring, upgraded electrical, upgraded A/C, insurance, rent at $2500/mo (first and last month) plus security, decorating (more expensive than you think). Then all of the little things start adding up like lotion investment, towels, etc.

It also depends a lot on location. What costs you $100 might cost another person $500 depending on the cost of living in their area.

Wow... I am almost too scared to ask anything on here

The first thread I read was the rules and the first paragraph states...

"The purpose of the TanToday forum Web site is to provide a lively, interactive meeting and learning place for people in the indoor tanning industry. We’re glad you’re here! This is a moderated Web site. When necessary, our moderators will edit or delete posts in an effort to keep the site free of “flame wars,” insults, crude language, advertising and off-topic replies. Please be courteous and supportive in your posts, and feel free to seek help without fear of undue criticism.
Please read through the following rules and instructions as guidelines for your visit"

Then saw this rule...

"5. No swearing, obscenity or other crude language.
This is a public Web site, so please use decorum when constructing your posts. While it is perfectly acceptable to be sociable and informal while interacting with members, swearing or other obscenity will cause your post to be deleted.
Remember, many of our tanning foes lurk on this site to see how and where they can hit us with anti-tanning legislation or regulation."

I then came to this thread and this rule has not been followed at all. Very heated. I was hoping to find more data and instead found more UFC. *sigh*

Just ignore it. This is a good place to find good info, you just have to weed out the garbage that goes on. Welcome to Tan Today and just jump in and ask away. There are a lot of long term veterens of the industry that post here, they just don't always have the best language or patience.

I can see that... but to be flamed for a question or opinion is just something I am not really looking forward to. That being said... I don't tell people they are an idiot for thinking something. Anyways... I was just shocked at the thread is all.

With the beds you have listed in the other thread, 10 will most likely be fine. If you had bigger beds, like an HP, you might need a bit more.

You will need 4 tons just for the space as it is 1 ton per every 400 sq. ft.

For every regular 100 watt bed you will need a 1/2 ton

every small VHR you will need 1 ton

for every large VHR 1 1/2 -2 tons

for every HP unit you will need 3 tons

Sounds like you will need at least 15 tons with the amount of rooms that you have and the potential to add bigger machines.

You will also want at least 600 amps three phase, 800 even better.
