Smile Employee Training

How do you train new employees? Do your employees have to work a minimum number of shifts in order to still work at your salon?

Betty, I downloaded the employee manual that someone posted on this forum. Go up to the search area and type in employee manual. Scroll down the list till you see it. It has some good info and you can personalize it to fit your salon's needs.

I have my new employees work with myself and other top employees until they know the computer program and become familiar with how the routine goes. First and foremost I work with them on how to provide customer service and how to speak to customers including their tone of voice. Stress the expectations. Then I educate them on lotions and how to recommend them to customers. Most of my employees are college students and I work with their schedule for the most part as long as it works out for both of us. Hope this info is helpful to you.

I just worked my new employee a full shift with me but she was easy because she already knows the industry inside and out. She knows lotions as well as I do (if not better) because she's tanned at every salon in the area and tried every lotion on the market. I got lucky with this girl. Keeping fingers crossed.

Fired someone last year because she could only work 40 hours for the entire month. In my opinion, having someone work too few hours takes away from a new potentional or tenured employee.
