Default lotion inventory

What is the best strategy for inventory management? I have some lotions that sell like hotcakes and some that are great lotions and will sell eventually, but I am hanging on to them for a few months at a time. Do I reorder the ones selling like hotcakes or push the ones that are sitting for a while? What does everyone else do?

Whatever you decide to push is what will sell...

Lotion 101: You have the power to make any product your top seller... just start suggesting it to all your tanners.

I'm trying to PUSH these bottles of Rayz and no one wants them. I have them down to 5.99 and still no one buys them. Now I'm gonna send them off to another salon to help her out but I hope she has better luck.

I get rid of all of the crappy lotions that I have by sending them back to my distributor....I'm lucky, if it doesn't sell, I have 1 year to send em back.....I used to carry alot of everything....Fiesta Sun, Supre, Designer Skin, OC, Devoted Creations.....I found it is so easy to sell Devoted Creations and OC than any other product, so that is all I stock, I can't keep them stocked long enough, they sell like hot cakes.

Stock your best sellers and the ones that have the best profit margins. If you have staff, its always a good idea to stock the lotions that they like because generally that's what their going to sell.

You can always sell your most popular and special order others. Then you arent holding onto lotions that are not selling in the meantime. Just an idea

Offer 1 or 2 brands only, top products. If someone wants something special you can usually order it from a disty & have it in a day or 2.

I was told not to discount your lotions-instead, offer a tanning special w/ that lotion. EX-Buy a $50 bottle of lotion-receive 5 Free Turbo tans($60 value).
I have session packages on all beds, but turbo bed is 3/5/8 & 10. Depending on the cost of the lotion, determines which session package the get for free.
My customers love this because they have the 20 min bed package & can use their sessions in standup or turbo. Encourages customers to use upgraded beds & love them. So they either upgrade when their sessions run out or they have to buy more lotion to get freebies. win/win

Take them off of $5.99. Wait til 4th of July weekend & make them all 1/2 off. Include you other misc. bottles, packets, etc. Call it your "1/2 yearly sale" like Nordstrom & limited to quantities on hand.. Works for us every time.

When I have excess packets of a lotion -> Buy 1 Get 1 Free.
This way I get rid of 2 packets in one sale and deplete the stock faster.

pricing them at $5.99 is part of the problem. if you must discount them that low, people think they are crap. put them at full price, put them on your counter and tell your customers you have a limited special of a free session in your best bed (or 2 if no Hp) but this is a limites sale, or a Today only sale. thats how we clearance lotions, and they move fast for us that way.
