Default HP in an area that doesn't have HP

Ive found that it takes a year or so to build up a client base for HP. When I first got my first HP unit it was hard to sell to the customers but once I gave away a few free sessions to my good customers they went from base bed tanning to HP. Its a struggle but well worth the long term investment.

We should be getting our first HP unit either Jan or Feb ( just as soon as our build out for our expansion is complete). We have already been talking to our customers about Hp tanning, and lots are very excited about using it. Its easiest if you explain that one session in hp is like doing 6 in your base bed, and then we show them they will be saving a bit on the points, as well as only needing .75 oz lotion as apposed to 4.5 oz of lotion ( half a bottle) to acheive the same tan. Going the full session the first time with no burning and only 3-5 sessions to Tanned, is realy apealing to our customers. And then of course is the "LOOK" factor of the unit.

That is how it is for me in a city of 200,000. Now after 3 years of having it, there is only one other place with a Tanses T-60 stand up pressure cooker and one place with an old combo HP bed with 100 watt lamps mixed in, not even close. And they don't focus on it. Just tell clients, "yah, it tans you better"

Mine originally took off immediately with used 818's at my first location. They were booked solid after only two months and continue to be that way to this day. I then added a second location with new Magic 636's and one 818.

It has been an open market for me. But marketing them correctly and getting the word out has been the key. Just adding them won't necessarily make them go crazy. Eventually more here will get them, but I am so far ahead, the extra exposure about "true" Hp will only help. We have had to educate every persons coming through the door and every phone call. That is the challenge.

What do you charge for HP. Do you feel it would work in a smaller town, with a less than perfect economy

Cove,

Don't shoot yourself in the foot by telling them to use less product.

They will definetly need to use an after tan moisturizer when using the HP unit. That excess heat & IR will drain your skin of moisture.

Many people feel comfortable using what the always use, so when a salon introduces a huge HP unit, it can be pretty intimidating to some.

It is always good to tell the clients to ocassionaly use the base level beds or 10 minute high UVB beds to get the melanin production going. Then next time they use the HP units with the huge amounts of UVA, the results will be that much better.
