Default 818 shutting off question

On ocation, once a day sometimes twice, the 818 will shut off mid session, canopy open, then turn back on again. As I'm away from my salon till next week, can't look at it. is there a reason any of you would know why it would do this? thanks.

at what point in the session does it do this ???

the 'sail switch' AKA paddle fan on the exhaust blower might not have good contact at all times. Dust/dirt can surround this item.

new lamps or old ones with hours on them ???e, or three things to look for right away.

older lamps can throw transient high voltage across wiring harness, and the computer board acts weird.

best solution .............................................

call Patryk at TanTech. He knows more about this bed than anyone, and will probably know the one, or three things to look for.

It's overheating and the thermal switch shuts off the bed. Sounds exactly how mine used to do it.

Dam 818's. Wire's burnt, glass breaks, bulbs burn out for no reason, won't start, half starts, ballast terminal melts....... and that was just this week, but they still make me big $$$$ with no payments. Hard to get rid of them.Like working on an old car. Just gotta keep putting the parts into them to keep them going and keep getting your hands dirty.

It could aslo be a situation where one of the colum swithes is acting up.Have them check the 3 screws that hold the lamp colums in place. Or open up the colums and tape the swithches shut. You said you were away,do they for sure have the a/c running. If not the heat sensor could do it.

I just twist the dam wires together on the pin switches. Never worry again. Then also if need be I can check voltage in the canopy with it running on certain spots.

Me neither. Everyone should stick with six 100 watt ETS beds from 1989 and charge less then everyone else around you.

it happens first thing in the morning as well, I don't think it is a heating issue. Yes the air cond. is always on.

You would be surprised how hot it gets during three or 4-6 sessions in row. You can't notice it as well even after session. I would put a thermometer in the room. If it gets above 33 C, it might be too much if the A/C isn't focused to the foot of the bed and the fan is blowing it across and into the intake vents.

Also, check to make sure the filters are new in the intake vents.

What voltage is the bed running at? I have had mine overheat with new lamps when I had the voltage too high at the start.

How is the bed exhausted? If it is too long up the pipes, after enough sessions it will overheat or if there is bend in the ducting.

I am almosted convinced it is a heat issue. I have had it happen LOTS before, even when the bed or room didn't seem hot oddly enough. I also can't see anything else that would cause it to only shut off periodically and raise the canopy as it does and then turn back on. That is exactly what happens when it overheats.

See here for cool HP lamps:

Same output at 180W as 818 megawatts!

I have to agree with James.....

How many tons of AC are dedicated for your 818 room?

Needs to be 3 tons.

We had this issue way way back......lights would shut off when to much heat....as soon as the lights go off and thermal switches cool the lights would come on themselves

This is Island Cove ( on vacation)

okay, I'm having a hard time wrapping myself around the idea it was heat, as there is three ton a/c, but what realy gets me is this has happened durring the VERY first Session of the day. Other days it can run almost non stop and nothing happens like this.

But is the three tons dedicated to that room? Better yet as in an earlier post, did the employee have the A/C on?

I have had times where in the morning the salon was 28C before open and then the employee didn't turn on the A/C when she opened and it overheated before the end of the first session.

Half the time I have to remind employees to turn off the A/C and lights every night.

I believe this was the problem. Once we got home and dealt with this, it works fine now, no problems.

Kids have been playing on the roof of our building, screwed with my A/C and today it won't come on. Hotter than H*ll in here, 28 degrees celcius, but 818 hasn't skipped a beat. working great. Booked solid.
