Actually, one fine fellow has tanned often in outer space. He's a little wrinkled nowadays, but otherwise survived:

He got 381 MED/hr out there.... blowing his Model 7.0 off scale.

Could a tanning bed put out that much for a 0.63 minute Te? Perhaps we should ask the hairless mouse people. Or maybe Blacksun would know...

IST (initial session time) to 3/4 MED would be 0.12 minute or 7 seconds!

Sure....

2. If so, how?
Take a heavy duty extension cord...(12 gage) and snip off the female end..split the wires and skin off about eight inches leaving very shiny bare wires.

Dip the ends in vasiline and wrap one around left ankle and another around right hand and lay in the bed.

Have your significant other plug it in.....

Actually use to cook hotdogs this way when we were kids....(no vasiline)took all of about 15 seconds to explosion. The trick was to unplug just after you saw the first cracks forming........

Funny but no cigar!

Note to Sparky:

IF you had gotten to bed early enough Saturday night to attend my Sunday morning Nashville seminar, you would know the answer to these questions. That will teach you to hang around with Drufus who is a "known" bad influence.

The information:

However, an "extraterrestrial" reading taken at 42,000 ft, i.e., at the upper edge of the earth's atmosphere by a NASA airplane, is hard to top = 581.1 UVI. In case you are wondering, the Te (4.0 MED) time was 0.63 minutes (38 seconds).

The questions:

1. Is it possible to have a reading comparable to the extraterrestrial reading (0.63 minute Te time) in a tanning bed?

2. If so, how?

Your answers:

None, zilch, nada.

Donsense answer:

1. 42K ft (Extraterrestrial) sunlight = 581.1 UVI / 0.63 minute (38 seconds) Te

2. 1000w HID/hp (@ 25 cm) W/no filter = 931.9 UVI / 0.37 minute (22 seconds) Te

3. 620w HID/hp (@ 25 cm) W/no filter = 615.7 UVI / 0.61 minute (37 seconds) Te

4. 400w HID/hp (@25 cm) W/no filter = 331.1 UVI / 0.86 minute (52 seconds) Te

This data shows why ALL sunbeds with HID/hp cassettes should be required to have an automatic shut down system that would activate if the filter glass breaks, cracks or shifts.

I log on monday morning. I see the question and immediately know the answer, but I read on to see who got it right.

but Don gives out the answer. Just couldn't wait huh don? Couldn't give anyone a chance to steal your thunder.

either no one was reading the thread, or everyone had a brain fart as that question was obvious.

PS. Saw a bed tech once , who worked for under a minute on a bed with no glass on a 400 watt facial lamp.

PEALINGS, Nothing more than ,......PEALINGS.
Face was phuked up.

You said "but Don gives out the answer. Just couldn't wait huh don?"

IF you had read my post, you would have seen that I said:

Your answers:

None, zilch, nada.

That, Drufus, acknowledges that either (a) no one knew the answer, (2) those who knew the answer were too busy to post, or, (3) no one was reading the post.

Since the "attention span" of a thread is about 24-48 hours, I thought that waiting 4 days for an answer was long enough.

In YOUR case, however, I can understand how a "brain fart" may have been involved.

I thank you for your statement that "PS. Saw a bed tech once , who worked for under a minute on a bed with no glass on a 400 watt facial lamp.

PEALINGS, Nothing more than ,......PEALINGS.
Face was phuked up."

Because it reinforced the point I was trying to make (whether you intended to or not).

PS: Don't worry about anyone trying to "steal my thunder" (and lightning) because there is only one Donsense. Don't settle for information from anyone but the original!

Dana:

The "point is" that I was trying to make everyone aware of how dangerous a broken, cracked or shifted absorption filter can be. A lot of HID/hp "newbies" may not know this.

The "point is" that FDA shouldn't allow systems with HID/hp cassettes that don't have an automatic "shut off" (that actuates if an absorption filter breaks, cracks or shifts) to be sold in the USA.

Sufwerd:

I find it interesting and informative that you (and your buddies) are so threatened by my "real world" spectroradiometric data. Facts always trump spam.

I'm not. I just pretend to be.

When spectralradiometers from China make their way to WalMart for $159 then I'll feel threatened lol.

The only "bogeys" I "find" are on the golf course (which is where I will be in about an hour).
