The slat glass is also a major pain in the ass to clean.No fun.And if one does break you might be waiting for silicone to dry after the repair.

Silicone??? You glue broken glass back together?

Silicone blocks UV, and degrades to dust after lots of UV exposure.

Perhaps I mis-understood...

the outer edge of the shingled glass needs to be siliconed into place or it will just fall out. I think they might use a type of weather stripping to keep in place also.

When I replaced a HP glass on my Ultrasun I laid a bead of silicone on the inner edge and pressed the glass on it. It's still holding after 3 years. The Ultrasun rep told me to do it this way. It wasn't exactly easy, but how often does HP glass really break?
