Default eyewear straps

We have a problem with eyewear straps. I am in Ohio and the inspector has demanded that we attach the strings to the eyewear. Previously for our beds we did not attach the strings, only for the stand up. We are required to sanitize the eyewear and sanitizing hundreds of sets per day with the string attached is a pain in the butt! They do not dry, get tangled etc.. Does anyone know of connected eyewear that does not have the string option. We have a regulation that states eyewear cannot be modified. I need ones that do not have the holes in the sides.

I called the State and they said that was the policy and it depends on how the inpector interprets it. I think I should just grind the holes off and say I bought them that way.

get rid of your community eyewear and sell everybody winkies and viewkeepers! Or make people buy their own goggles.

Was looking in my catalog and I see a set called "Prospects" made by CalTan...they do not have the strings...also Sun Globes would do the trick...and as ^^ said viewkeepers and wink-ease seem to be a few options...

We also switched from AG Disinfectant for our goggle tank to Lucasol...made right there in the great State of Ohio...in fact my home county..Lucas..near Toledo...

Reason being...they need only be dipped in Lucasol to kill hepatitus C and many other bacterias ...whereas AG takes 7-9 hours to disinefect properly and sanitize (so I have read and been told by eyewear experts)...I can back up this info if anyone wants my sources...let me know...

Good Luck... Soo

Prospecs do have strings, actually they are clear plastic so there is no lines. Real nice.

trust me. You'll STILL be wondering where the hell the string is AFTER you open the package. They hide it in the google bag...anywhoo that's besides the point. They are being jerks to this salon owner only due to they have not a clue at what they are enforcing.

I hear you...NO matter how close to the letter of their laws they always find a flaw...for instance we have to hand out (Florida) even though in our consent form the regulations on tanning on another sheet of paper...so we attatch that to the back side of their half of their skin type sheet from Smart Tan..and the Inspector came in and said I must change ALL of them and ADD >>>

"Ultraviolet radiation from sunlamps will aggravate the effects of the sun. Therefore, DO NOT sunbathe before or after exposure to ultraviolet radiation."

Even though ours read like this>>>We had to add #3..says the same as #2 but not what they wanted...Hows that for NIT picking...

Written Warning According To Florida Statutes

CONSUMER STATEMENT
IN ACCORDANCE TO RULE 15 A NCAC 11, SECTION 1418 (a)
(Formerly 10 NCAC 3G 3518)
Danger - ULTRAVIOLET RADIATION

1. FAILURE TO USE PROTECTIVE EYEWEAR CAN RESULT IN SEVERE BURNS OR LONG TERM EYE INJURY.
2. Overexposure, as with natural sunlight, can cause eye and skin injury or allergic reactions. Repeated exposure can cause
chronic sun damage characterized by wrinkling, dryness, fragility and bruising of the skin or skin cancer.
3. Ultraviolet radiation from sunlamps will aggravate the effects of the sun. Therefore, DO NOT sunbathe before or after exposure to
ultraviolet radiation.
4. If you believe you have abnormal skin sensitivity or burning caused by certain foods, cosmetics or medications, including,
without limitation, tranquilizers, diuretics, antibiotics, high blood pressure medicines, or pregnant or on birth control pills
therefore, any person taking prescription or over the counter meds should consult a physician before using a tanning device.
5. Crossroads Tanning does carry liability insurance for injuries caused by tanning devices in the amount of two million dollars.

I am also opposed to having to tell anyone how much liability we carry...BUT another STATE law...as soon as people see that we are targets....I think an Atty should have to request that...not just show it to the world...Anyone else feel that way??? It's like .....here take another pot shot at us....

Any way...Have a great day... Soo

You don't have an eyewear straps problem. You have a problem with a bad law.

Community eyewear is bad public policy. Go to your legislators and get the regulations changed.

Better yet, convince Ohio (and Florida) legislators to follow the lead of South Carolina legislators and get out of the tanning salon regulation and inspection business.

Make an effort to rescind bad anti-tanning laws.

When you have time....come on down...I would be out of business trying to change all those laws...in the mean time....I try and abide by them and make a living...

Thanks for such instant wonderful advice... Soo

I just finished working to knock down another anti-tanning bill in MD. This is the second time in 3 years we went through the legislative process here... and won both times.

By the way, my business is doing very well without state regulations and inspections.

Now, I'm more focused on US HB-4767. You should be too.

Don't expect everyone else to fight all your fights for you. Get involved and pull your own weight.

This goes for everyone, not just Soo.

I think if I got rid of community eyewear, half of the clients would wear nothing. We have a lot of high school and college kids. Might start pushing selling though.

Absolutely wrong!

In fact, you have it ass backwards. Clients don't use community eyewear for the same reason you won't use the community toothbrush when staying at a hotel.

Sell eyewear and demand to see it before they go in the room. Clients will use their own eyewear. They will risk their health and vision if all they have to use is community eyewear.

Talking

We sell 5 different types of eyewear...including Wink-Ease and View-Keepers...

and I also agree that many do not and will not wear goggles even when we do ask...every single time...as it is posted behind the counter we always walk them to their room...never send them on their way...no matter how many years they have tanned with us...Here is the post behind the counter>>>>

Another Rule!!!!!!!!!
Every time a tanner comes in, you must ask to see their eyewear.
The question is not >>>>>>
"Do you have your eyewear"? but,
"May I see your eyewear"?
I would like the wording to be >>>>>
May I see your eyewear and lotion please?
AND one must actually see it.
It is funny I've had customers call me at home to say a new employee had not asked to see eyewear.
We take eyewear very seriously here.
Don't Forget to ask...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
So you see some of us really do care about our tanners...not just money!!!
Best regards, Soo
I stopped providing community eyewear last year. I require that everyone show eyewear prior to tanning. I have no control of what they do behind the closed door. Suprisingly,I have had very few problems with this. When asked why I no longer have community eyewear, I was honest and told them that I worried that someone would get an infection during the busy season when the eyewear couldn't be in the goggle tank for longer than a short dip.
You wouldn't believe how much you can make on the eyewear too.
I've had only about three customers outright refuse to use eyewear. They now tan somewhere that doesn't care.
You can also add eyewear to new customer packages, maybe in a "tan bag".
