Default Help with Salontouch DB Maintenance

Anyone run manual db maintenance jobs? I do my backups manually (sucks!) already. Have the delete program to get rid of old records but really would like to run some regular db maintenance.

Anyone know how to do this? When I try in my SQL Job Viewer under Maintenance tab, it is not successful. I can see the server but nothing happens when I click start job button.

Call IDS. They will walk you through it.

Thx, but definetly not calling IDS. They suck! Was hoping someone had the magic answer so I don't have to call them, spend two hours on the phone and end up worse than I was when I started.

mssql assigned to my salon - it's LAN not WAN. is that what you mean? i can access the server when using the backup tab but cannot seem to access it when using the maintenance tab, even though it's listed.

well first of all, what is it you plan on doing in the database. I can't think of too many reasons to need to go in there

when i say i can access it, i mean i can see and select it. i just need to run maintenance on my db. isn't this standard procedure for db upkeep? maybe not necessary for sql? i don't know.

are you concerned about orphan records somewhere and things like that?

I work with a very large database that stores alot of the army's planning information. Only time I need to directly access the database would be to make a change to a piece of data that we keep on there that wouldn't be editable in most cases.

I don't know the layout of salon touches db. When you delete a client record, ALL items associated with that client should go with it. Does that happen, I'm not sure. Same goes with products and things like that. Essentially, there should never be a need to go in and do "maintenance". With a relational database, if you don't understand the relationships, you can delete something that is a vital link to other tabels but looks like junk.

You don't need to do it for salontouch.
