| Salon Owner Join Date: Jun 2008 Location: why...want to stalk me? Posts: 57 | Anyone run manual db maintenance jobs? I do my backups manually (sucks!) already. Have the delete program to get rid of old records but really would like to run some regular db maintenance. Anyone know how to do this? When I try in my SQL Job Viewer under Maintenance tab, it is not successful. I can see the server but nothing happens when I click start job button. |

They will walk you through it. __________________ si vis pacem, para bellum "The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing." -Frank Zappa. "I inhaled frequently. That was the point." - Barack Obama. | Hall of Famer | are you concerned about orphan records somewhere and things like that? I work with a very large database that stores alot of the army's planning information. Only time I need to directly access the database would be to make a change to a piece of data that we keep on there that wouldn't be editable in most cases. I don't know the layout of salon touches db. When you delete a client record, ALL items associated with that client should go with it. Does that happen, I'm not sure. Same goes with products and things like that. Essentially, there should never be a need to go in and do "maintenance". With a relational database, if you don't understand the relationships, you can delete something that is a vital link to other tabels but looks like junk. |
