I am hoping I can get some tips here for a problem I am having. I have a sportaredo mattress HP bed and I have been getting quotes from electricians on rewiring the room for 3 phase.
They all want round 2k to do this because the bed is far from the panel and they need to rewire everything and even put in new conduit piping to make the room 3 phase to run the bed. I have been told that the bed can be converted to single phase which would save me a TON of money but I was also told that the bed will use a lot more energy if it is ran in single phase... Also, the bed requires 230 v and the salon only is set up for 220. Any ideas? suggestions? |

What is the breaker size requirement for this bed when setup as 3 phase?
I am thinking on single it could exceed 100 amp and most panels will not support a breaker beyond that. I just had 3 phase ran to a room with an HP. Cost was $300. I think you may want to shop around more. You may also want to supple the cable yourself. if you go aluminum you have to increase size and thus conduit size, but you can save some serious $ going that way.

Well you need to know the breaker size requirement. I am sure someone here does. But you cant even get a quote started without knowing the breaker amperage requirement since wire and thus conduit sizes will be based off that.
The problem being that the bed may require 80 three phase, but 120 single phase. Which is why at times it actually IS cheaper staying three phase. It was in my case.

The bed pulls around 50 amps in three phase and would probably pull around 80 amps in single. I think Brian knows how to rewire the bed if you can reach him.
I ran the bed on 6 gauge wire and 60 amps breakers. You'll probably need a bigger wire for single phase. |

she needs a 3 phase panel before she can do anything. you can't get 3 phase from a single phase panel. thats why she's getting $2,000 bids. or, do you have a 3 phase panel?

Then piping a room should not be that much. See what size conduit is going to the room, then ask Sparky (hence the name) if you can get 4 wires through it and how much LUBE. IF you can't squeeze the wire through the existing then you will have to run new conduit to the room. A pain to do while open.
Check around someone usually knows an electrician, and have him pull it on a Sunday when you are slow, and pay $$$ green. |

Yeah i was thinking about asking them to squeeze the wire in but the only problem is the conduit that the room is on now only runs to the panel that is set up with single phase..
The 3 phase panel is 5 feet to the left of the single |

Easier to move and repipe 5 ft than 80 to your room, tell your elec. you will do the pulling he can push. I about died pulling in my HP room 80ft at 6" or so at a full strength pull took over an hour, very tight squeeze but we got her. Arms were like rubber bands when done.

you need at least 3/4in conduit to pull 3 number 6 thhn wires and use the conduit as your ground as long as its metal emt pipe or chop the pipe off going to your single ph panel goto home depot get a couple 90 degree elbows and a length of pipe and pipe it into the 3ph panel.

heres a rigid conduit fill table measure your current conduit size and compair to see if you electrician is stroking you on that cost if you want to go 3ph and you need at least 3 number 6wire conductors you need 3/4in pipe to go single phase on an 80 amp circuit you need 2 number4 wire conductors so you still need an 3/4in pipe so see what you have. it you only have 1/2 inch your screwed and need bigger pipe
