Just checking what everyone thinks. I lease from a huge real estate company in the northeast. I would like to get a rent reduction asap. Should I send them a letter or call? I do not want to play hard ball, fact is business sucks right now and my last busy season was not as busy as it used to be. please help with advice!!! The landlord is Urstadt Bidle. When I negotiated my lease they where real tough, but in my plaza their are 5 open parcels right in my area.

When I re-negotiated my lease I actually spoke with our landlord, but we are a pretty small complex. I would think that with a pretty major player that you would want to send a letter so that it looks professional but then follow it up with a phone call so that they know that you are taking this serious.

I'm paying half what I started at, with no other fees, (used to pay water bill, mintenence fees) and did not extend my lease. One of the things I did was promise to do everything I could to get the empty spaces rented (helps me anyway) And was actually able to find tenants for 2 of them. My husband has done some minor maintenance for him, also. I spoke directly to my landlord on the phone. He lives 2 hours away and will do just about anything to get out of coming down here.
