Why would you Not want to take advice from People who know the equipment and can teach you how to sell it to your end user, your customer? Call salons in Canada, ask them how they are doing with their HP units, who they bought them from, etc. You will learn that most of the salons that are successful with HP are the ones that have purchased from Steve or Rob or atleast have been taught by them in some way. Most Canadian distributors have no idea how to sell HP to the end user, they are mostly just good salesmen who can talk you into it, but can't help you when your unit is sitting empty.

John. as far as units being the same price now because of the dollar, don't forget that any unit not made in the USA is subject to 6% duty when entering into Canada.

I would sugest also that people wanting HP units, or any units for that matter, will benifit greatly by purchasing from distributors that DO NOT wearhouse the units in Canada, because then you will get the right dollar exchange. I'm sure there are distributors in Canada that purchased several units at the old rate and still need to charge the higher price.

Before you take the plunge and pay $35-$45 thousand for a hp, find out all you can on how to sell hp. Ask yourself the question: Can my market support a hp bed and will they pay the price to tan in it? I made the mistake and bought a Mastersun last year. I thought I could sell it, but I couldn't give it away. Most of my cliants are college kids and they don't have the money, and besides that, they are intimidated by that big bed. I sold it and took a $14,000 hit on that bed. A valuable lesson learned.

I'm struggling with my Magic too. People don't see the value in it. I've gotten better at selling it and I've sold more packages this month than I have since I got it. If you have clients that want to be as dark as possible, then HP probably isn't for you. Thats the main problem i'm running into. All they care about is color

Rob and Sunsally have helped us a great deal with the HP and we haven't even recieved the bed yet !!! The advice they gave us has created allot of excitement for the bed and everyone is looking forward to it arriving so they can try it out. The wife has fliers and pictures around the salon. She has put up posters around town in gyms and hair salons and is sending out postcards too !!! Parrothead is correct in doing your research too. We will be the only salon in town with a 360 HP unit. There is allot of great information on this site from everyone here. Take advantage of the knowledge and experience.

That also depends alot on what you purchase. If you spend 35K on a bed and you have to get $35-$40 a session it could be hard to sell.

Option #2 is spend $15K-$20K on a used HP and you have options. I had a tough time selling my Matrix at $29 a tan. At $24 (4) high schoolers in the last 2 days have tried it and they will now never tan in anything else. It is by far my most popular bed.

At some point we will get back to $29 but I'm stilling turning a nice profit at $24. And I only spent $16,500 on the bed from Sunsally (Ann).

You should consider the Matrix's Ann has. If you are in a town full of Magic's then maybe it wouldn't do well (according to others in here). If you are in a town with no HP (as I am) the Matrix will be the best thing since sliced bread (as it is in my area).

If the Magic is as good as people in here claim it must be one hell of a bed cause I love the Matrix and so do my customers!

That's why you sell packages.....to bring down the price to $15, $18, $20, whatever you want it to be with a package purchase. It's supposed to be expensive for single session, that's the whole point.

Mine is $32.00 for a single.....but $75 will give you 3 ($25/ea). I don't care if nobody buys a single...they aren't supposed to. They are supposed to buy packages.

That's too low. I do 5 for $110 and 10 for $200.

Two more high schoolers tonight - both did the Matrix. That's 6 new high schoolers in the last 24 hours - 5 bought a Matrix and 1 bought 3 blue moon for $45.

Who said high school kids don't spend money? Or did they say they don't buy lotion? Haven't sold a drop of that to them!

Well I've had more time to digest. When I couldn't sell for $29 the better answer would have been 3 for $70 and leave the single price alone?

Is it too late? Will I scare them off if I try it now?

Personally I like to keep the walk-in price high - because that then helps to establish the "value". Discounts then look that much better - because they are compared against that relatively high initial price.

Our walk-in price is $35. But with pretty good regularity, we run a special of "Buy 3, get 1 free" ($105) or 4/$99.99. That is actually the most common package we sell on that bed. It is a better discount to buy the 10 or 20 session packages -- but not everyone has several hundred dollars they want to fork over at once. So they buy those 4 packs time after time after time....

Now -- with NEW customers, we let them trade in one of their "3 Free Tans" to try the Matrix for just $15. It is the cheapest they will EVER pay to use that bed!! MOST do it at least once when they are new - sometimes all 3 times. So we hook them from the first day in the salon!

I would keep your price up at $29 - even $32. Then, for ANYONE that has never tried it -- even if they are a current customer -- let them "try" it ONE time -- for $15. Who doesn't want to try the very best thing you have for 50% off??

At $32-35 walkin --- it is much easier to show the "value" of 5/$110 or 10/$200. When $24 is your walk-in --- doesn't seem like that much of a savings to buy in bulk.

And THEN - you could do a 3/$75 or 4/$99 -- and it would look like a DEAL - rather than normal pricing.

It's all about setting "perceived value"!

OH - and on lotion use, ESPECIALLY with High Pressure:

Have lotion in a "staff drawer" that says "staff" on it. They should be ABSOLUTELY and FIRMLY told it is CRITICAL they use lotion - ESPECIALLY for HP. If you just can NOT make the sale -- reach in and hand them a bottle of your "staff lotion" to use - just this ONE time (emphasize that!!). Because "it makes SUCH a difference when you use lotion!".

When they come out, they aren't sure if it is the bed, the lotion, the combination or WHAT -- all they know is, they got RESULTS and they want that to happen again!!

Next time -- they BUY lotion! Can even offer them a small discount when they buy a Matrix package -- e.g. Buy the $75 matrix package, get 25% off any lotion purchase.

All great ideas IMO. I'm sure you'll get harassed when some of these guys get out of bed. Especially like the lotion idea. Lord knows there's enough partial bottles laying around that it wouldn't even make a dent in them.

Next dilemma is how do I keep my wife from trying every frickin lotion in the Four Seasons book? Answer that one and you'll really be my hero!

I like those ideas. Just can't cave when the customer expects to get free $h!t the next time around.

I agree to keep the walk in price high. That is what pushes the packages. I think that was always a given. The single price was never intended to be sold, except to strippers.
