I have Level 2 KBL 3500 Super (140W) and Level 3 Sportarredo Blue Moon. This is probably a question for Rob but other's may have experienced the same thing.
Any customer I've had that has used both beds agree that although they like the Blue Moon better they like the facials in the KBL better. I certainly don't want the KBL sitting their empty but some customers choose it strictly for the facials and I'd like to have the extra $6 for the Blue Moon. Has anyone ever replaced the frosted facial acrylic in the Blue Moon with a clear one? Would it even help? |

Sunfactory57 is correct.
Can try switching up the lamps to try to get different perceived results. But the wattage, reflector system, etc will all come into play. Not worth switching out acrylics

From what I've heard via Don Smith... the frosting reduces output about 10%. BUT... it also helps diffuse the light so you don't get focal pin points or hot spots. That also depends on the reflectors and bulb mount (horiz or verticle).
Assuming the facials have filter glass above the acrylic... you could meter with acrylic off and see if it goes up much. If so... then clear UVT acrylic would allow most of that increase through.... for whatever about 10% higher is worth compared to acrylic cost.

Do they like the color better or the cooling better?
I am not sure about the KBL, but the Blue Moon facials are 1500's and 600 watts.

They "claim" to get more color from the KBL but I used the Blue Moon yesterday and I got great color from the facials so now I'm thinking maybe it was dirty. I cleaned the entire bed yesterday real well. Can't remember specifically cleaning the inside of the facial acrylic last time. Maybe I just missed it.

In the high 60's but don't know where I should hold the meter. I always just rest the bottom of the meter on top the pillow. Probably isn't right but I figure as long as I hold it in the same spot everytime it works for my purposes.

Your facials are metering in the 60's?
Wow...okay...do you have a number to compare them to when they were new or your other beds with facials? My facials on my Dr Kern Viva 4's are the 400W facials. If i hold it on the acrylic, they meter in at about 130-145 on a 5.0meter. If i move the meter up closer to the facial...say half way between the acrylic and the lamp...the meter blows over.

meter each lamp and see if they meter the same. PUt the meter up to one lamp and then the other...and so on .....
could be one metering 150+ and the other metering 10. could be blown ballast, and since some of the lamps might share ballast due to the adjustability, it lights up but doesn't actually have any power. Brian can explain it better.... but hold the meter up to each individual lamp, like 2-3 inches from the actual lamp and see what happens...what does each one meter?

As I said I'm putting it on top the pillow. Wasn't looking for results to share with everyone - just wanted to make sure I had it in the same spot everytime so I could monitor lamp life.
I'll do as you suggested and let you know. Gonna slide by the salon later tonight. Just opened in April - bed has 175 hrs probably. I'll check. I take it apart and clean it about once a month. Did the 100 hour maintenance that the manual called for. This is my wife's salon. I pop in and out from time to time or I could be more specific. I'll post findings later. |
