Default Marketing and Advertising

February 1, 2005 I will be launching a pilot test allowing tanning salons to simply and affordably market to their current customers. I am currently seeking interested tanning salon owners who would like to participate in this pilot program. Services will be offered at a steep discount during the pilot test period.

I would like to learn a little bit about your experience as a tanning salon owner.

- What is the average annual amount spent on advertising and marketing for each of your locations? What percentage of your gross sales does this represent?

- What are you spending this money on (coupon mailers, newspaper ads, etc.)?

- How much of this is directed toward current customers and how much is for new customer acquisition?

- Do you have a database of current customers?

- Are you satisfied with your current marketing efforts?

I look forward to your responses!

Can you expound a little further about your idea or your business?

Aaron, what is your connection to the indoor tanning industry?

And, what's up with you and www.wintoiletpaper.com and www.shareasale.com?

You bet. Marketing to current customers can be one of the best ways for tanning salons use their advertising budget. My company is able to accumulate and manage current customer data and then create and manage the distribution of ongoing communications to customers via two marketing channels, e-mail and direct mail.

These services are targeted toward small B2C businesses, chains and franchises that don't have the budget to hire an advertising agency, but understand the necessity and value of effective ongoing marketing to current customers. I am currently working on implementing a service specifically tailed to the needs of tanning salons.

Upon program launch, these services will be made available at a flat rate, billed monthly. This pricing schedule is designed to be both predictable and easy on the cash flow.

My only connection with the indoor tanning industry is that the program I am pilot testing is for tanning salons. The pilot test will help determine the ways in which the program can be tweaked to serve the specific needs of tanning salons. My professional background is in marketing.

Jim – as an "Entrepreneur Extraordinaire Since 1953,"I’m not surprised to see you’re curious aboutWinToiletPaper.com! The website was the number one toilet paper sweepstake on the Internet. It was a part-time venture of mine that was surprisingly successful. Share A Sale is an online affiliate marketing company that I used to generate traffic for the sweepstake site. This experience with e-mail campaigns has been particularly useful in developing the ways in which to effectively use email for the current program I am posting about.

Thank you for your quick replies and questions!

The amount of business a tanning salon does is in direct relationship to the amount of effective advertising that is done. Advertising directly to your client base at appropriate times will always be your most effective form of advertising. A program that will allow you to do this economically is a great idea, however be very careful with whom you share your data base.
