We donate free tans to the local schools for the private auctions. Every single one of the bidders has become a regular client. Plus, you can write off the donation. We also swap coupons with other area businesses. It helps both businesses and it's just the cost of a business card size coupon. I do BOGO coupons for that. We tried the fliers when we first opened. Not much of a response. But, I get mad when people do it to me. I think you just track it and see what works for you.

With regards to who I am - donna in TX - that is all you need to know. This donna doesn't "do" Dallas. HUGE signage and banners on your storefront in a good drive by location. One location I have gets about 20,000 drive by's a day (and this is in a small city of 200k).

Another location I have a huge "TANNING" banner hanging under the main signage.

Other than that, direct mail is the best way.

Tan Girl in Co, yes you can write off the donation, but not your retail selling price, only your cost of the package. Most likely about 50 cents a tan or so

1.) Banners and signage - I change my banners every 2 months to keep people looking my way. Plus I make them kinda cheese to get people laughing and talking.

"Now serving Toasty bunns"
"Toastin Krackers since '98"
"I shall be pasty no more"
"White? We can help"

2.) Direct Mail

3.) Radio - I use Jon @ Adfirm in Texas to make my spots. Sure the radio jocks will cut you a spot for free, but at $20.00-$55.00 a 60 sec. spot you are best to have a pro make your ad so it is effective. We lease our ad's for $300.00 a spot/year and well worth it.

Bottom line... If it's not effective advertising it does not matter what frequency you are running it at.

I love the banners! That is a really cute way of advertising and I am sure effective...I am sure people look to see what you are putting up next!
