I wouldnt call mine a full vehicle wrap but the lettering that I do have has seemed to work well for me so far and was the best advertising investment I've done yet.

Yellow Pages = waste of money imo.

Oh ya, fliers/coupons on pizza boxes at our local pizza place has seemed to paid off. I see those coupons come through the door often.

We have a small magazine that comes out every six weeks and goes to every home in the area you live and it has coupons for food places and hair salon and a ton of other things. We advertise in there every issue. It at least gets our name out.

I've always thought it was a good idea to sponsor kids sports. And also ads in yearbooks and stuff. Parents tend to support the people that support their children.

Exactly what I was thinking. I've been getting a lot of calls of sales people trying to get me signed up for yellowpages and I think its a big waste of money. Then they try and make me feel like I'm an idiot and the only Tanning Salon in the area that isn't signing up for a large package!

All you have to do it go onto yellow pages and search and you'll see no one has a yellow pages ad, and you can update you're free listing to include your website and your hours anyway.

I advertised in it stupidly the first year I was open and I dont even have their book on my desk. I think it got thrown away and I never missed it.

I am a firm believer of supporting your local sports events, schools, businesses, etc also. I do that heavily. But I have no competition in my area to contend with so I am able to pick and choose my advertising. My name was on the back of the powder puff girls uniforms this year and I tan 90% of those girls so i just did it to give back to them.

I got stuck with the former owners contract for yellowpages...WAY too much money for i think a total of 30 tanners last year. I finally got them off my back a few months ago, although I did have a dream the other day I went to court then jail over not paying for the yellow pages ad...wierd.

eyecandy,
Did you purchase the the business or just the assets?

If just the assets, you are not responsible for that ad. I went through the same thing when I purchased the assets to this salon 8 years ago. I had to eventually fax them a copy of my purchase agreement stating we weren't responsible for any outstanding debt and that finally got them off of my case.

There was a thread in the gold mine called cost effective advertising that had some good stuff in it.

The business, but changed the name (so is that just the assets?). I told them when I bought the salon I would take over their contract...dumb idea. Oh well it is over and I did not end up in yelloowpages jail! lol

Anyone put coupons on the back of receipts, say at a grocery store? It is around $400 for three months at the Cub across the street from me. I also plan to sponsor the high school 3 blocks away for as many teams and events as I can afford and or they allow me. Definitely plan on handing out free tan coupons to all of the local businesses and especially the local bar/restaurants. Not just the people that work there but I want to get them to hand them out to customers they know.

^^ former owner here had a problem with those. They wouldn't let her change then and she had forgotten to put an expiration date or "one per customer" thing on them. And they kept extending the time period without her giving her permission for it. And when she sold her other salon they wouldn't let her cancel it.
