We are pretty much the only salon in a rapidly growing area. There's one other salon, but its pretty inconvenient for people in the growth areas of town. Aside from a Domino's pizza, theres one other restaurant that delivers pizza. My friend owns it and has offered to put a flyer on the top of each box. This restaurant really does most of the pizza deliveries in my target area, so its a really good oppurtunity.
I am trying to figure out what to advertise. I know from reading posts, many of you do not like to give free tans, but I would think that a free tan would work well to get poeple in. then I was thinking of telling the sales staff to say they are eleibilge to trade that coupon in for some type of disocunt on a month or number of sessions. Let me know your thoughts. jason |

DB,
What type of offer did you list on the box? I am thinking my Dry Cleaner next door would be the place to partner with in this center. (Hmmm...they might be one of the only tennants left after spring. 6 of 20 remaining leaving. Already have 3 vacancies they mall can't fill) |

We did the samething when we opened our first salon. We became friends with the manager of the pizza restaurant because we ate so much pizza when we were building out the salon. He offered to put our flyers on each box of pizza for nothing, so we took him up on it. We did not offer free tans but gave a 30% discount if you brought in the coupon. We did this for 3 weeks and this pizza restaurant was the #1 store in a city of 3 million people for this chain. We got exactly 0 coupons back.
It seems like to get any response from offers, free has to be in it. |

I do 500 pizza boxes every year for our free tan day. We print on 8 1/2 x 11 yellow paper. It really stands out and it takes up the whole top of the pizza box. We get a great responce everytime we do it!!

For an offer to work it first has to be seen, and secondly it has to be interesting. I'm sure some people saw the pizza box coupons. So if it was an interesting offer some coupons should had been redeemed.
A FREE offer is more likely to be seen and to spark interest. Try a "Buy 1 Tan Get 1 FREE". Then when they come in, have a up-sale offer available. Or if you feel that's too much to offer do "Buy 2 get 1 FREE". |

I think FREE Tans are a great way to get people in. Think of what ir REALLY costs you to give away 2 FREE Tans? Some people say Oh, just give them a % off of a lotion, i.e. 20% off of a $40 lotion. So, that is $8. Do two FREE tans cost YOU $8 off of your bottom line? NO. Plus, if and remember I'm saying "if"...your employees are not good at selling lotion then....20% off of something they aren't already going to buy doesn't motivate them to come in. Another great idea is to help your guy out who owns the pizza shop. Ask him if you can give coupons to his pizza place for your customers. Each customer gets a reduced price for his pizza...then it helps both you and him.

I feel the word "FREE" is what motivates people to at least try to come in. And the reason I say two is that they might come in once...and for whatever reason it might not "hook" them. Maybe too busy, they are rushed that particular day..etc. Getting them in a second time gives you a better chance of getting them to a monthly. Give your current clients something too. Have them put a piece of paper with their name in a bowl and pull for a FREE tan. Then put them in your best bed. Nobody likes to drive a VW once they've been in a Porche. Your chance of upgrading them increases when their current contract runs out.

Been doin' pizza box tops intermittently for 3 years. Every holiday and promotion you can think of. Never get squat. Good thing They don't charge me. If I didn't get my copies for 2 cents, it wouldn't be worth the trouble to drop them off. Part of the reason I keep doing this even though it really doesn't work for me is that it's cheap, and I keep hoping...
