The wed site I have now is out of date. We are in the process of having a new site built.

I see questions related to this thread on many occasions. Remember if you want to give yourself the best opportunity for success, get qualified help. With help the whole process will be smoother, cost you less and insure a much higher level of success than if you don't get assistance.

There are so many things a potential new salon owner needs help with, this site and others are a place to visit and communicate with others looking for help and salon owners already in the business. Most are happy to share what they know. Lots of different information from many different people with varying degrees of experience. What i offer is concise information packaged in a way that takes the guess work out of trying to put bits of conflicting information together in a way that is useful. I just make opening a salon very simple with a proven plan that works. You may choose to do it the hard way and struggle with many elements of opening a salon that can be enjoyable and educational. I make it easy and save you a lot of time and money. The salon is still of your design but with structure that allows you to maximize income potential. What I do is not for everyone. Some people must learn the hard way rather than benefiting from others success. Getting qualified help is just an intelligent option.

The Nashville show was great, It was a lot of fun to see some of my old friends and meet a lot of new people. It is apparent that many existing salon owners and potential new salon owners need a great deal of assistance with getting their salons on track.

Do you have any suggestions as to who they should call to 'get back on track'?

Tony there are a number of places to get assistance. The point is that if your salon is not doing well it is important to get assistance with identifying where changes must be made and make those changes before the next active season. Just waiting and hoping that business will get better will not work.

It is 2007 and the busy season is just around the corner. Have you made all of the necessary changes to insure a successful 2007?

I just wanted to share a letter I received today.

May 23, 2007

Stephen Underhill
SMU Consulting & Equipment Sales
5513 Baton Rouge Blvd
Frisco, TX 75035

Dearest Stephen,

My salon has now been open for 60 days and we are the talk of the town! I would not be in this position if it had not been for SMU Consulting! The best way I could summarize how valuable your services are to me is by using a well known commercial:

Tanning Equipment: $108,000.00
Buildout Expense: $50,000.00
Other Expense: $25,000.00
Stephen Underhill’s Consulting: PRICELESS

Without your services, it would not have mattered how much or how little I would have spent on everything else to start up the tanning salon as I would not have had the vital information that is necessary to make it a success.

As you know, I attempted to obtain an SBA loan for a tanning salon a few years ago and was turned down by three banks. Two years later, after hiring your consulting firm and following your advice, I was approved by the first bank that I submitted the business plan to.

There is an overwhelming amount of tanning equipment out there, especially for someone that is new to the industry. Your expertise proved once again to be PRICELESS. Having the right mix of equipment and equipment that is designed to last and is backed by great customer service is invaluable.

I could go on and on about how many hours and dollars your consulting firm has saved me. It is so nice to know that I have a strong, invaluable source standing behind me and my salon. I would have it no other way!

If at anytime, I could be a reference for your company, it would, without a doubt, be my pleasure to recommend your services.

Sincerely,

Danita Sauerwein,
Australian Sands Tanning Resort

Everyday I speak with salon owners that opened a salon without assistance and now they are in big trouble. It is a lot easier and less expensive to get assistance from a qualified Consultant when opening a salon than looking for help after the mistakes have been made. Yes your mistakes can be corrected after the fact by a Consultant but a lot of time and money is already lost at that point.

Always give yourself the best opportunity to succeed, a qualified consultant can do more to insure your success than anything else you will do.

Now is not the time at all to even consider opening a tanning salon, let alone any other business!

I know ditsy's are a business too, but they need to pick their potential new salon owners really really well. more money is going to be needed in the bank and yet that may not be enough. I truly feel bad for anyone that is going to try and open now.

Our economy is facing a potential recession. Spend some time if you haven't reading cnn.com, invest in a subscrption to the wall st. Journal, and money mag. These items are a true business persons porn.
I answered your previous thread regarding if anyone is making any money. The ones that are making money are typically not new salons (less debt), if it is a sml 6-8 bed salon the are in a unique market, or they are huge companies backed by investors and a ceo who sleeps in his/office. Again what I did three years ago, could not be done in my current economy.
