Steve and I had several conversations also. He was relentless in convincing me to use every inch of my open space. He was quite a pain in the azz about it but in the end I listened. THANK YOU STEVE! Man it would suck to have to remodel now that we have our doors open! Glad I got it right the first time.

The first step is to find a great location.

Remember floor plans and demographic reports are two of the first steps towards your new salon.

Hey Steph:

I would like to take you up on your offer. I am looking at 1400 sft space 20 x 70. It is new construction so I am still haggling the AC/Power. I am looking to put in ten beds. 1 HP, poss the ETS VEL, 1 stand-up, and a mix of L1, 2, and 3's (2, 3, 3) ...seriously looking at ETS and ProSun. Let me know what other info you may need.

Go with Pro Sun. They are the best tanning machines on the planet.

Ask for George Sklenika. He works at Pro Sun and also participates on this board and would be happy to help you.

Since Pro Sun does not sell HP I would move over to ETS for the Velocity. Now this bed is a real money maker. Your customers will love it.

This is a great thread for beginners to view. I intentionally keep it current. I apologize if it annoying you.

" Also, how many beds can you fit into a 1440 sq. ft. salon?" I've got approximately 1550 sq. ft. in the tanning area of my salon. In that area I'll got a Mastersun hp, 2 big vhr beds, a standup w/dressing room, 4 medium level beds, 4 entry level beds, a large waiting area and 5 foot hallways. In the other approx area of 450 sq. ft., I've got a Magic Tan spray room, 2 bathrooms, a laundry room and a large entryway. You can do a lot with say 1500 sq. ft.

The width of my 2000sq/ft is what hurt me in design. We squeeked out 14 rooms, one is for standup, the other is double size for the magic. Single bathroom that is large, but its the current ADA specs, 2 closets, electrical room, laundry room and office that can be made into a small room if needed. I wanted a decent size lobby so 350 sq is for that. My only complaint is with my Magic room, I would have made it 2 feet deeper than what I have, but it is usable.

The type of walls made a big difference for me. I went Eurowalls, it allowed me to maximize my space to it's fullest, without them I would have been hard pressed to even make 3 foot hallways.

Just a bump to keep this thread on the front page, all new salon owners need floor plans and demographic reports.

Free demographics on any defined radius (I look at 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 miles) 3 miles is the hot radius for me.

I used Google Earth to find my exact latitude and longitude.

Select "all tables" for the full report.

http://mcdc2.missouri.edu/websas/caps.html

Missouri runs the website but it's good for the whole country.

Very cool.

You might consider redesigning your banner.

Hey Chief

Thanks for the info to the website I just printed my own demographic report. What a great link! I am new to the industry and am looking to buy an existing salon in the next few weeks. This has helped inform me, again many thanks.
