Missouri runs the website but it's good for the whole country.

Very cool.
The problem with this report is that it is only from the 2000 census. It does nothing to calculate the increase or decrease in population based on new construction, building permits and so on. There for you are getting inaccurate current information. I ran a report from this site and a report from my source and the results where different by over 30% providing numbers through 2006 and projected growth through 2011. It is important to work with current accurate information. I pay a great deal of money for this service that I offer to you for free. This is the basis for so many struggling salons, working with inaccurate information.

George,

I just got your packet today and I am seriously considering Pro Sun just for that laugh.

Brian,

As much as I have come to the understanding of how much you LOVE Pro Sun, but even you have to give him credit for that one.

Thanks DD, I appreciate the compliment. Never did get a response from Oshman on that one.

I look forward to going over the info and factory direct pricing with you when you have time. Please feel free to call or email me with any questions. Thanks again for your consideration and appreciation of my sense of humor.

The leasing agent for the building I am working with provided me with an E-brochure with a 2005 demographic report, aerial, site plan, traffic counts, and local economy. Very helpful on deciding to go with the building I chose.

The first step in location evaluation is looking at the demographics.

Steve,

Demographics can be very misleading. I say you need a lifestyle segmentation analysis, or simply lifestyle analysis. A lifestyle analysis tells you how consumers in a certain geographic spend their time and money. Lifestyles rely on the psychographic or behaviors of consumers. Tanners exhibit certain correlations with other activities. A lifestyle analysis will tell you how many of them there are within a geographic area. Demographics is just a small piece of the big picture. I would recommend you look into Pointblank Business Technology. They offer demographic analysis and lifestyle analysis. I hope this helps.

It all starts with population density, white 18 to 54. This is your target demographic. Within this demographic you can look further into lifestyle dynamics. However it is easy to disqualify or qualify a location based on the parameters listed above.

Question about Demo reports:

My area is very seasonal which means alot of the homes are second homes. People live in Baltimore, Philly, DC, Wilmington area and then spend 35-40 weekends a year at the beach.

Others rent out there second homes in the winter to college students, transients, etc. utilities included. When I first moved into this area as an early twenties partier I used my parents home town address as my address of record.

How does demographics account for these people?

hi hon. I'm sure you've gotten a ton of mail on your most gracious offer. I was hoping you wouldn't mind help me also. I'm in th early stages of starting my salon and am having a hard time finding demographic info. If you could tell me who tans, income, age, lifestyle, etc. or where to find it that would rock.

Thanks so much,

If they own a home in the area they will be reflected in the report.

If the demographics are not strong at your desired location your salon will fail. Know what is going on in your area before you move forward. It is just as easy to find a good location as bad.
