Offer her 5K.

I would steer clear of it though.

Junk for equipment; sounds like old buildout and no room to expand. Run away as fast as you can.

Thank you everyone for your responses! What is the best way for me to learn about the tanning beds. I've searched the internet a lot to learn about the best beds and what to look for , but most of the time it'is just ads to sell them.

Is there any type of references I can go to? I found a book called " The indoor tanning bible" would that be something good to buy?

Just take a gander around here. Do searches on equipment, read old posts. There is a ton of info on here and its pretty easy to find.

This is the new Tanning Bible. Just keep searching on the site, ask questions and take your time to make sure this is what you want to do. There are many newbie salon owners that have taken 1-2+ years to learn everything they could before opening. They are better prepared than I was when I opened 10 years ago. There was no such thing as Tan Today and websites to help future or current owners. I wish I had this when I opened. Great stuff here to help you!

Good luck!

( an upscale look) My question is...is this an industry worth getting into. I've read some things that lead me to believe a lot of tanning salons fail. Would you say this is due to mismanagement or too many tanning salons and not enough tanners?

I would be leaving my $56k a year job ( that I hate) to focus on and run the business. What is everyone first opinion...would this be a mistake?

There is a salon currently listed for sale that if we were ready would an example of something we would buy...( in our price range)

The sales price is $45K. Gross Sales $85K with Net profit of $25K.
The salon is located by Arizona State University. The salon has 6 beds total - 5 lay down and 1 stand up... I don't unknown the brands.

The monthly rent is $2600 for 1675sq feet. The owner says a lot of her business is from drive buys due to location .

Would I be crazy to think that I could get this salon up to a net profit of $40K.

That is the magic number I need my salon to net is $40K ..

Any thoughts or opinions? THANK YOU! Thank You !!
90% of all tanning salons are struggling because of structure and management. The salon that you are describing for sale is too small and probably designed in a way that it can't be up graded. AZ is a strong market. Salons near universities are typically very successful. I am working on a new salon in Gilbert AZ that will be open by the end of the year. It will be very successful as a result of proper structuring. Please keep in touch and go by and visit it when completed.
