| I have been offered the salon I used to run - he is an older guy and wants to move on with life. He thinks the salon would be better ran by a female and he could have saved money if he was able to do a lot of services his self. He is a good guy, I have known him for a long time. He told me he paid 140K for the salon in 1993 and is willing to walk away with 70K.... great salon!

I think the veterans here would agree that a bed is maybe worth 1/2 the new cost, even if it is only a day old...just like a car, drive it off the lot and you just lost $5000 in depreciation. In order to have others give there opinions of the worth of this salon, you gotta list it out... |

Good things to know to value the salon. I don't care what he paid for it 14 years ago. People buy salons based on current sales and YES, current sales are a good barometer for "FUTURE, YOUR ASS IS ON THE LINE" sales. __________________ Alan"America is too great for small dreams" - Ronald Reagan |

| Veteran Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Conshohocken, PA Posts: 318 | He has 9 stand ups - custom built with a patten on them (100% UVB bulbs included - only corner bulbs) 2 beds - about 5 years old (great shape) Set-n-me-free body wrap business (lots of clientele) Airbrush tanning (just purchased a new system) Bioenergiser Foot Detox (dont know the details) lots of regular clients high traffic area and town 2 salons locally (hollywood and another family owned that does not do a lot of business) Hair salon across the hall from him that gets clients in The clients from my 5+ yrs working there are loyal and spend $. he sells minute packages which are very popular there. you only go in for 7 instead of 10, you pay for 7. only on the standups though. he is meeting with a vendor on monday about a new product, not sure what it is. HE said he also had thoughts about airbrush tatoos... anyone know about that? in my mind the business is worth it b/c I worked there full time, did the bills and know it. I know the area, the clients... but this is something I have to THINK about. not for a week, but maybe a month or two. he offered it to me when I worked there and I never acted on it. he will not advertise it for sale, he will ask inside people first, so I know I have time. Thanks all - again!! __________________ “Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises"-- Demosthenes (384BC - 322BC) |

| Hall of Famer | I'm going to say this in a nice way because I was trying to be on your side for the other salon. PLEASE DO MORE HOMEWORK, you really need to understand things before you run in there. 100% UVB, I'm not sure they even exist in any form, you'd be a lobster after 10 seconds. If you tell someone that they will think you are crazy or worse, you have no clue what you are talking about. Most people will agree minutes is the worst thing for a tanning salon |

These are old school, dangerous, home made, unregulated, unregistered, etc... trouble. This place is more of a dump then the one you were looking at in Aston. Don't even touch this place. It is a liability. Should be shut down. Everything you learned there should be what to avoid when owning and running a tanning salon.

| Moderator | Sounds shady. Agree with everything everyone has already said. Minutes SUCK. Lots of money on the table. It costs the same to fire the bed up for 5 or 15 min. YOu will lose money on minutes. BUt that is another thread... |

| Hall of Famer | Maybe this place can benefit from newer equipment? Ditch 3 or 4 of stand ups and put in 2 to 3 more beds. If you have Hollywood tans right up the road don't compete with them, differentiate yourself from them. The bulk of the tanners prefer beds |

| Veteran Join Date: Aug 2007 Location: Conshohocken, PA Posts: 318 | I am not walking as of yet. I have worked at this salon for 5 years (full time most of the time) I know the clients and what they like – they LOVE the beds. The beds are timed separately. The regular bulbs and then the UVB bulbs; Goes up to 10 minutes. To start out I used to start at a 3-7 (3 mins on uvb and 7 on others).. You boost your way up. They are REALLY nice booths if you look at them, they are not made in a garage, and they were designed and made by a licensed and insured electrician. This business does very well and is not a dump at all. The clients have the option of not putting the corner bulbs’ on at all. ffice ffice" />I did always think about putting another bed in there b/c they are popular – with about 60% of the clients. They have a lot that do the stand ups. My tan has always lasted longer in that salon then any I have ever tanned in! Hey Brian – have you ever worked in the KOP area? You may know this salon??? It is also a building with 4 stores. 2 on the 1st floor and 2 on the 2nd. Nail salon and flower shop downstairs – high end hair salon and tanning up stairs. I think if I want to think about this – it will be months away, nothing soon. He will be sitting on selling it forever, has been since I was there. I hear what you are saying about the min packages, but the clients seem to love it. __________________ “Small opportunities are often the beginning of great enterprises"-- Demosthenes (384BC - 322BC) |

Sorry Queen, but that sounds homemade to me!! Maybe someone like John at URI or Solarmeter knows the law, but I think there are all kinds of FDA stuff you have to go through to be legit. You can't just build a UV booth and start collecting money from the public. __________________ TonyG

The bottom line is -- CLIENTS love them --- because it is ABSOLUTELY the cheapest way for THEM. However -- for salon OWNERS - they are death. They are the least profitable way to structure your salon pricing. However -- a long ways off before you have to worry about pricing packages on this one! |
