Wow....not the response that I expected. Most of the time, in forums like this one, the majority of people who respond offer help/advice from their own experiences. Most of the replies that I received were thrashing me and warning not to "cheapen" the industry. We're not talking about such an important industry to society that it would be a sin to put a tanning bed in a video rental store. I'm a firm believer of being proud of what you do, but let's not go overboard.

Alan, you have a great site here, but why attack my post and get so defensive about adding a bed to a video store. If a large, full scale tanning business would better fit my situation, I would do that in a heartbeat. In my situation, adding 1 or maybe 2 beds for now is better. A full scale salon wouldn't work in the small town where I'll operating. I don't just think it would be "neat" to put a bed in my little "shop", it would add another source of income to my business. I appreciate your site but not your condescending remarks.

Brian, nice try with the WV insults. I grew up in one of the smallest towns in the state, so believe me, I've heard them all. A swing and a miss, my friend.

Fit, thanks for your genuine concern for my business choices.... I do know the typical outlook on the video rental biz, but being in a small, out of the way town, it actually works to my advantage. Only about 10% of the households have the option to have high-speed internet (unless they go with the expensive satellite option) so that takes out the competition of downloads. So it's a very good thing for me that everyone is "behind the times" when it comes to technology.

EliteMike and Alan, "ba-doom, ching", good one, you comedic gods....nice joke with the vhs and beta max reference. Not all of us hillbillies are technology idiots....only the ones everyone sees courtesy of the latest newscast (cue, idiot meth-head in background screaming, "Earnhardt Rules".

Tanning Queen, THANK YOU!!! you're exactly right, I'm just looking for info before I just put a residential bed or a piece of crap in. Nice to hear from someone who realizes that the same business plan doesn't fit a large city in Florida and a small, country town.

Brownsuze, I mentioned earlier in this novel-like post, that a full scale salon wouldn't go and being that I'm in the area that I'm in, I don't have to contend with alot of the "new" competition in the rental biz.

Din, Thanks so much for the suggestion. I thought about going that way but when I first scouted the location, there are two laundromats within 2 blocks of my location....thanks

sedmiller, thanks for your excitement with your all caps typing....I'm glad you agree with someone's post...

Sorry for the numerous keystrokes above, but now back to the point at hand for those who want to help.

I received some info from a company called "ProSun". Their entry level beds are the "Onyx" line and they're around 3-4K. I don't know alot about this industry, but they have a great look to them. I mention this because, the looks alone would draw the people in....trust me you have to know this town. This is the land of the cheap, bleach blondes and the horrible type of tan...they'll eat a new bed up.

Has anyone had any experience with this company?
Or any other suggestions?

Thanks for reading (if you had the time).

You can't go wrong with Pro Sun. They make some real nice stuff for the money. Easy to work on, they rarely break down. Your customers will love them.

Thanks Brian....you too Tony G.

I also received info from UTS...What's the word on those guys?

BTW, Brian, I love the the avatar with the guy kicking the old lady....he reminds me of "Brian Fantana" from "Anchorman" (Paul Rudd's character). Where did you get that?

D.W.: Be careful.... they are pulling your leg big time.

Normally I would let it ride.... but your long post was articulate and had no words spelled wrong... so I got a sympathy pang for you.

EliteMike has the new Prosun stuff and he seems happy. I had a Prosun bed and it was always a problem. I also thought other beds tanned better.

Brian is the bed tech guru so his opinions come from fixing them. If you can find a bed that he says is good, you are on the right track.

Dont be afraid of used beds. Lots of salons have closed with almost new stuff out there. You can really get a good deal. Check out the Trading Post here and you might see one that works for you.

Consider the Sundash Pro beds. They are 32 lamp beds and you can get them with or without a HP facial lamp. I've seen these beds with 7000 plus hours on them. They are real work horses and not alot of money.

Solarmeter, thanks for the heads up.....

TanningQueen, thanks again for the info.

MacDaddy, thanks, I'll look into Sundash.

The othe company I received info from was ETS, not UTS....

Thanks to those who are sincere and to the smart asses....think about it for a second....why do that? what if someone would take your advice and spend their hard earned money on a crap bad? grow up and realize that people (myself) come to forums like this to get help and try to learn to make a go at something.

Go 'eff' yourself, its important to me asshole. Go open your cheap laundry/ movie/ tanning/ gasoline/ pastry/ landfill. Make a fortune off your hayseed clients... but don't insult me and tell me what I do is not important, or that I'm going overboard by trying to set a high standard.

Because you insulted us. I was trying to give you good advice, open a tanning salon, and you basically told me I'm not important to society. I hope you spend all your hard earned money on crap. Make a go of it...

I don't want to see anyone fail. I wish you the best of luck. But my quote was:

When people talk about how poor the future looks in our industry ...

So ok right now it will work for you. How long before you see a return on your initial investment? How much longer before your local cable company offers Video On-Demand? How much longer before your customers all have high speed internet? Netflix.com becomes popular?

I also live in a small town but we have a WalMart. Most DVDs are $15-$20. Purchasing movies cut down on my trips to the video store. Once the cable company offered Video On Demand our trips to the video store ceased. $2.99 to watch a video by pushing a button.

FYI - Brian hates ProSun. He was joking around. If you're only going to have one bed don't buy a base bed. Make sure it has at least 40 lamps and facials. Brian has a used Heartland in the Trading Forum. All joking aside, if Brian is selling it you can bet it's in good shape. He wouldn't list junk on here (unless he listed it that way).

Again, I wish you the best.
