listening to your advice Nemisis, you have a more non-lethal, and commons sense way of presenting it.

You do realize the most successful people buy distressed businesses all the time and turn them around for a hefty profit dont you? Every single person i have taken to the location as repeated the same thing "it has massive potential" and i agree. Not one thing stands out to run and hide
i agree with ya that people turn distressed business's around all the time, but a couple things just don't jive with the tanning industry, and one is turning them around for a hefty profit.

tanning is just a whole different breed of business, unlike most other things. And i have to ask, are the people ya brought to see this salon in the tanning industry? those are the types ya need to bring, and the successful ones, not the new salon owners or struggling ones. Best of luck to ya whatever ya do!

Again, the issues I have brought up are MAJOR issues. You need to have your OWN control of your AC unit. You need to have your OWN panel for your beds. You need to KNOW your demographic NOT just that there is a tanning salon within 5 miles, in order to be successful. You need a landlord that KNOWS the size of his own retail space he is renting.

You just arent listening. You are going to lose way more money than you will make in the next few years. This is an industry where if prices of regualr goods and services go up, you are the first thing cut from the budget. PEople will give up tanning to buy food and gas. IF there is (God forbid!) another 9/11 here, many salons will close. People stopped travelling, stopped eating out, spent more time with family. THta meant they didnt TAN.

GO buy a failing food joint or a hair salon. Money better spent and more year round income.

I do have a question, that I am sure you will ignore like the rest of mine. WHY are you so hell bent on the tanning industry? WHat makes THIS industry so appealing to you?

Oh, and if the salon you are looking at (6 beds 2 booths) is teh LAREGEST in the 5 mi area, that isnt good. It tells me AGAIN that the demo's dont support 2 tanning salons. NOt that you will get the freakin numbers that you could get for FREE from SMU consulting. Sheesh...

She decided to take our advice and not buy that dump. Someone else bought it.

I don't think in the current economic circumstances its smart to try and rehab any "distressed" business. If I bought my salon this year, I would have been done before I even got started.

READ THE DAMN PAPER now is not the time to invest your money in anything except a nice retirement plan.

You will buy this dump, pour money into it, realize there is little income, and then become a slave to it... working it every hour, pinching pennies trying to make the income look decent, and hoping upon hope that *this year* will show a profit, that *this year* a dummy with stars in his eyes will walk in and say "I'll buy it!" that *this year* everything will turn around....

1. there is no profit, so who you gonna flip it to?
2. who buys a business that has been failing for almost 10 years, with one owner after another, a business that the owners walked away from, not just once but several times?? Any potential buy you find will see that and be wary (I'd hope) (tho I cannot see why you aren't)
3. "that gives you cancer!"

The industry is in a major slump. You are dreaming that you will somehow, after all these years, after all these failed owners, after all the media mudslinging, after all the economic forecasts, be able to make this place profitable enough to resell it, when every indicator is saying the opposite. WaKE THE F^CK UP.

^^^^ What she said!

And she is a pretty NEW salon owner that took over a salon. With BETTER demo's than what you have.

You never answered my question about your sustainable burn rate. In fact, you haven't answered many questions at all.

You have here several centurys of experience trying to help you and you're not processing anything.

This thread is like repeatedly throwing a life preserver to a drowning man in a lake who is wasting all his energy throwing the life preserver back into the boat. Eventually, you're gonna disappear below the surface.
