Tanning Salon Slapped with Lawsuit for Not Stopping Peeping Tom

TOLEDO -- Particularly distasteful is this story of voyeurism in our backyard.

A popular Toledo tanning salon is facing a lawsuit after a teenaged client said an employee was peeping at her during her session.

The young woman said she was at the Sun's Up Beach Club in the 5100 block of Heatherdowns Blvd.

The 17-year-old's lawyer filed the suit this week against the salon, the employee and the manager working that day.

According to the suit, the plaintiff was 16 at the time and had just gotten out of the tanning bed -- nude.

She says when she went to put on her clothes, she saw a face looking down at her through the space between the wall and the ceiling.

The perpetrator -- also a teenager -- admitted to looking down at the plaintiff when the case went through Juvenile Court, but he said it was an accident.

The girl's attorney says the employee was found guilty in January.

He went through a Juvenile Court program on voyeurism, but, because he showed no remorse, they filed the civil suit.

Now, he will have to participate in a sex offender treatment program and must have no contact with the plaintiff.

The suit states that Debra McIntyre was managing the company at the time and failed to secure the privacy of her clients.

News 11 tried to talk to McIntyre but were told to leave the property.

Tanning Salon Employee to News 11: "Can you guys stop taping us, please? We asked you once to leave."

Other clients told News 11 they were familiar with the voyeur scenario.

"I've heard that happen at some places. It's alarming. You're vulnerable there. You don't have anything on," said Keri Gill, a young woman who uses the salon to tan.
