| E! basks in 'Sunset Tan' Cable network to bow nonscripted series By JOSEF ADALIAN ![]() E!'s new nonscripted series 'Sunset Tan' will shine a light on a Los Angeles tanning salon. E! is looking to fry the competition with "Sunset Tan," a nonscripted comic sudser set inside the world of a Los Angeles tanning salon. Six-episode series will bow Monday, May 28, at 10:30 p.m., immediately following the premiere of the latest chapter in Paris Hilton/Nicole Richie saga "The Simple Life." Subsequent segs will air Sundays at 10:30 p.m. "Sunset Tan" will follow the lives and loves of staffers and clients of the salon, both at work and off the job. E! describes the staffers/cast members as "unusual, colorful and somewhat dysfunctional." Storylines for the first season of the show include twins who want to tan their names on their bodies; a dead person whose final wish was to be tan; and a Hawaiian Santa Claus looking to get bronzed. Guest stars -- maybe George Hamilton? -- will also pop up during the first six segs, cabler said. E! Studios is producing "Sunset Tan" in association with Intuitive Entertainment ("Blow Out"). Mechelle Collins and Kevin Dill will exec produce. Source |

This isn't good. I can think of a couple things the Olly girls may be good at but working at a tanning salon isn't one of them. This was a great opportunity to improve the image of the indoor tanning business and educate the public about the benefits of moderate exposure to UV light in a nice salon. Instead, we're forked. Ignorant media, well financed dermaterrorists, anti-tanning salon legislation being introduced coast-to-coast (including California, home for this "reality" tanning salon) and now we have to deal with "Sunset Tan" on cable TV. We are so forked! The owners of the Sunset Tan business, Jeff Bozz and Devin Haman, need to be bitch-slapped. And not in a nice way! This show is bad news for the indoor tanning industry. Just when you think it couldn't get any worse than Gotti Tans, along comes Sunset Tan. http://www.eonline.com/on/shows/sunsettan/index.jsp http://www.myspace.com/ollygirls http://www.myspace.com/missmollyshea http://www.myspace.com/Holly_Hilton Last edited by Editor-in-Chief : 28th May 2007 at 03:19 AM. |

| Super Star | One of their commercial segments shows an obviously under 14 year old girl (i think they even ask her her age) being sold a bed tan and a spray tan to get the "Lindsay Lohan look." This salon is Cali, you cant tan peeps under 16! The girls mom is there super excited to get her daughter all tanned up. This can not be good for our industry, especially when we have a new law trying to get passed to eliminate under 18 tanning. |

The damage this TV show does to the indoor tanning industry is immeasurable, far exceeding anything the dermaterrorists have done. This show needs to be cancelled.
California tanning salon owners, in fact all tanning salon owners coast-to-coast should publicly condemn "Sunset Tan". I was being too kind when I said the owners Jeff Bozz and Devin Haman, needed to be bitch-slapped. They have earned a serious beat down! Last edited by Editor-in-Chief : 29th May 2007 at 01:50 AM. |

It isn't like they are going to get up and talk about positive benefits of tanning. Notice one of the owners pulling up in a Ferrari. Plus nice huge LA house. Problem with that is now every dreamer is going to think " I am going to open a salon and be a LA millionair". Think about it. As if a company like that is going to have those "olly girls" working the front. It's all fake. If anything, the exposure (good or bad) will increase traffic for many salons everywhere. And as if anyone else on here wouldn't put up their salon for this show. They would be getting paid HUGE for it. I would tomorrow, come film, just make sure I get my cheque at the end of the month. |

| All Star Join Date: May 2005 Location: Los Angeles, CA Posts: 66 | I'm waiting for the "reality check" episode where we'll all be told what we saw in the previous episodes was sensationalized fiction - and that this is NOT how responsible tanning salon owners run their business... BUT I think I can wait in eternity for that episode to air. Imagine: AB105 just passed the State Assembly here in CA - and there will be a hearing next week in the Senate where tanning salon owners are testifying.... HOW will we argue against the anti-tanning lobby (and the sensationalist media) when we have a "reality show" depicting a MINOR, well under the age of 14, being allowed to tan? I always thought the Sunset Guys were smart, media savvy people, but I'm now convinced of the opposite. (and this was just episode #1... 5 more to come... we are bracing for the effect this will have on our industry's image...) All I can tell you is that the feedback we're getting from our customers is "...disgusting!" |
