Regardless of my feelings about any other postings/people, I will post on this.

I work in Emergency Management and deal with disasters constantly. Please keep yourself safe and don't be stupid. Your property can be replaced someday, you can not. Plan ahead and don't wait for someone to force you out. It's a hassle and but do it now vs waiting. The one positive from Katrina is people learned not to take these things lightly....don't forget that lesson

Praying that Gustav steers clear of the USA and the oil fields. Praying that people are smart and get clear of this.

We dont panic, we prepare!!!

We have plenty of water, flash lights and other supplies both at home and at the salon.

My customers are aware if it looks like it is going to hit...I close
as we did for one day thru Fay

I have lived in florida my entire life and been thru plenty of storms, you NEVER know what they are going to do so YES you must prepare ahead of time to be safe.

Honestly, the people of Louisiana should all just move out, and the entire state be made a national park. These hurricanes are just going to keep coming as they always have. This is not a place sensible people should live. It is just a swamp in hurricane alley. It is fit only for alligators, creoles, and the insane!

I dont think you would like anyone talkin $hit about your city when you might just be going through another major disaster.

Have a little consideration!

Thanks Matt.

They just issued a mandatory evacuation for us(terrebonne parish/houma, la)

Looks like gustav has his eye directly on us right now. That won't be too good.

Heading out in a moment to higher ground.

Keep safe, sorry to say it does not look good. I'll likely be down there at some point depending on where it makes landfall next week. Feel free to PM if you have any cleanup related questions and I'll see if I can help/answer...that's assuming I even have electric let alone internet.

Shane I am thinking of you and anyone else that is in the eye of this thing. Maybe just maybe it will not be as bad as the last one.

Damage wise, I think it will be equal but maybe not the levee issues. The oveall impact should not be as big and should not be as negative in terms of who did what and why. The state seems to be taking things serious this time and actually following their evac plan. I think most people will listen too since Katrina is fresh in their minds.

Tony has exhibited himself on numerous occasions in the wake of Katrina to be a total jackass. It takes a pretty small minded person to make those kinds of remarks to people who are facing the possibility of their entire live's efforts being wiped away in a matter of hours. One headline on Nola.com; "Prepare as if you will never return." I fail to see the humor in that.

Y'all keep saying "Drill here, drill now." Gustave appears to be headed directly to Port Fouchon, through which flows over 20% of the U.S. oil supply. Offshore oil production has to be piped onshore. I guess that according to Tony we should relinquish that 20% because is fit down here only for alligators, creoles, and the insane. Again, he's a total jackass.

I'm here guys. I am at my father's house about 45 miles west of where it will hit. We'll definitely get major winds here, but I don't have to worry about flooding. The rest of my family is safe and far away. I sent them away yesterday morning.

Now, on the other hand, where my home and salon is, seems to be the direct target of this as*hole Gustav and the parish I'm in(terrebonne) has no flood levees. So if it does hit us, my home and salon will likely be gone.

Saying prayers here that it shift slightly or majorly. Just don't need a direct hit. Wind damage doesn't bother me, as it can all be repaired. Flooding on the other hand......

Thanks for the thoughts guys and gals and I will try to keep every posted as long as I can. Might even getcha some pics.

We have generators to run the whole house, so as long as cable stays in tact, I'll be able to post.

Just keep an eye out, 45 miles from shore is not that far. When we were in Orlando several years ago, we were hit with a strong cat 1 down from a week cat 3 and it traveled about 100 miles over land. 45 miles, depending on how fast it's forward progress, is not far. If it makes landfall as a cat 5, you could end up with a cat 4 by you. Not something I'd rec staying though. Be safe either way
