Exactly what I think! But so much better than I could say it!

I agree Kathe. The speech wasn't about, "Let's give em a handout". It was more about, "Here's where we are, here's how we got there, can we all at least agree that a problem exists?".

Not sure who actually read it and who didn't but what I found so interesting was that it was spoken by a half-white, half-black man and he saw the issues from both sides - minorities who feel discriminated against and whites who feel that all the minorities want is a hand out. He didn't argue one way or another. He just asked everyone to try to look at from each other's perspective.

As I've posted before Obama was a key sponsor of Welfare reform to get people off welfare. I understand he's a democrat so that puts the label on him but it's not an accurate assessment of his values. Even his health care plan isn't mandatory for everyone, just children.

What are you talking about? Welfare reform was passed with Newt Gingrich as Speaker of the House and Clinton signing it as Prez. It was more than 10 years ago. Obama wasn't even in Congress when this was passed, much less a "sponsor". Crazy talk.

Yes that is true Tony but that expired in 2002 and Bush signed a new. It is set to expire again which is why it has been a hot topic.

Talking about obama is pointless until he picks a running mate. If he don't pick clinton, we will see another republican in office. That's my personal take.

Fit, I personally find your avatar offensive

Jeez I hope you're right Mike because I don't think he'll pick Clinton.

I wish the issue of race wouldn't even be brought up, because I honestly don't think it matters. Because I'm not black I can't see it form both sides? I dont care what color or sex you are, it shouldn't matter. It's your character, beliefs, and thoughts about where the country is headed that should matter. I personally don't believe in free handouts. I dont believe in communism. I believe if people want to not be poor they should work hard to not be poor. I shouldn't have to work hard so they can not be poor.

And don't tell me I can't see it from both sides, because my boyfriends family are mooches who sit on their ass and do nothing and expect him to pay their rent and their phone bills because they are too busy buying beer and sitting on their ass to pay their own bills. They get social security even though they could easily get off their ass and work. Then the people that really need it, like the woman who works for my mom, who has 3 kids, a deadbeat ex husband who won't pay child support, works over 40 hours for my mom and has another job plus cuts hair in her spare time at her house for extra money. Can't even get a stay on her heating bill so her gas doesn't get shut off. She had to pack her 3 young children up and stay at her moms a few nights so they wouldn't freeze. She can't even get free health insurance (in massachusetts mind you) because she makes $200 too much a month. She needs help and has worked her ass off and gets punished because of that. But my boyfriends mom who sits on her ass expecting everyone to take care of her gets help.

Ok so I'm going off on a tirade and could go on forever. Stupid margaritas. FIT I'm kind of upset about the avatar change, I guess your bum was getting too sore, hehe.

There is so much more and we're just getting started. Here's how he is going after your vote and others in middle America:

"You go into these small towns in Pennsylvania and, like a lot of small towns in the Midwest, the jobs have been gone now for 25 years and nothing's replaced them," he said.

"And it's not surprising, then, they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations," he added.

Then there's the alternative:

And in perhaps the most seriously troubling set of gaffes of them all, Obama told a Portland crowd over the weekend that Iran doesn’t “pose a serious threat to us”–cluelessly arguing that “tiny countries” with small defense budgets can’t do us harm– and then promptly flip-flopped the next day, claiming, “I’ve made it clear for years that the threat from Iran is grave.”

Is Obama for free speech? Only if you're not talking about him or his wife....

Hmmmm, maybe this wasn't so funny...

Barack Obama says he's gonna go out and campaign in 57 states, he was just tired, you know, it's been such a long campaign, he's been so many places,he probably
thinks there are 57 states.

Well, I have here a printout from a website called the International Humanist and Ethical Union. And here is how the second paragraph of an article on th at website begins.

'Every year from 1999 to 2005 the organization of the Islamic conference representing the 57 Islamic states presented a resolution to the United Nations Commission on human rights called combating.'
Organisation of the Islamic Conference - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Obama said he's going to campaign in 57 states, and it turns out that there are 57 Islamic states.
There are 57 Islamic states.
So did Obama just lose his bearings, or was this a more telling slip, ladies and gentlemen?
