Hey gang
Well it took me a couple of weeks but I finally finished a new employee policy manual. I have it available to any salon owner who would like a copy. You can customize it with your business name. I have it available in word document format it's a 23 page document I can email as an attachment. If you would like a copy of it you can Download it by clicking the link below. It covers: Employment Policy General Apperence and Public Relations Hiring and Orientation Company Benefits Job Assignments Layoffs & Seasonal Positions Absences Harrasment Employee Information Confidentiality Agreement Honesty & Integrity References Resignation Equal Opportunity Employment Position Advancment Employee Dependability Pay Period Information Time Clock Information Compensation Commisions Employee Accounts and Settlements Proffesional Behavior (no frat. policy) Breaks Chain of Command Computer and Security Codes Termination Materials and Supplies Health & Safety Houskeeping Non Compete Employment Holidays Dress Code Parking Employee Tanning and Lotions Purchases Training Client Protection Eye Protection Client Relations Tanning Process Benefits of Tanning Selling Yourself and an Employee Acknowledgement Form as a last page for them to sign and you to keep on file. This is a free use document , there is no copy right. You may use and any changes are welcome. The one thing I have'nt done yet is put in an index page with topics and page numbers. It cost me around $6 each to have these proffesionally printed in book format with clear vinyl covers and hard black vinyl backs with coil bindings by my local Kinkos. I have a family member who is a Washinton D.C. Attorney and I never do anything without his consultation, so I asure you that my manual has been read for legal concerns. I am not copyrighting this manual and selling it to salon owners... instead I am giving it freely with no copyright... and full rights to edit and customize this manual to meet your salon's legal needs in your state. It is advised to have your manual read by legal counsel before having the books binded for production and circulation for your own protection because your local state employment laws may be different than mine .<!-- / message --><!-- sig --> Please give me feedback ... your suggestions and ideas will be vary helpful to us all. Ahh yes.. many many changes... getting a little more formal about things in my old age. Work ethics have dropped so low I feel it is needed to show todays workforce we mean business... that, and protect ourselves as employers. I'll send you a copy of mine and you can tell me if yours has anything I should add Feel free to use any or all of it if you need it. I think by sharing our resources as salon owners we can help one another free up valuable time to do other things we need to do. Lord knows there are never enough hours in a day for us

Angelique,
I got my copy over the weekend and I have to tell you ... I am very impressed with the amount of work that you have put into this, and how comprehensive you made the manual. You cover things, like dress code, that had I given it my best shot, being a guy, I probably would have put it in a way that was offensive. Although geared toward a multi-location operation, I find that with minor massaging, it can be made to fit quite nicely inside my little 6 employee salon. Thank you soooooooo much for sharing what must have been 100's of hours of your work. PS. I have some friends that live in the Salem/Eugene area and in their eMails to me I will see little quips about "we had 3 sun alerts since we last wrote - 2 were false alarms." Again, thanks!! |

I understand why they do it, telling people to protect themselves from sunburn is one thing... but having a daily news breaks on sun advisory for the day is putting fear of the sun into the community at large and that is just stupid!

I'm sorry, I led you to misunderstand my "sun alert" comment - it was to be humor. My friends have complained fairly regularly that they miss the amount of sunshine they got here in Illinois since moving to Oregon - therefore, their comment relates to the LACK of sun seen. So their "sun alerts" are for the sun actually coming out.

I am lucky to live in the high desert so we have like 300+ days of sunshine here I am happy to see the HUGE response to this manual! Between those of you here on this thread and those who PM me privately here I have mailed out over 2 dozen coppies in the past week!
