Default Tell me again when slow season is over??

We are actually not doing tooo badly. EFT's are down, freezes can be a good and bad thing. I would like to know how to go about raising my pricing w/o PO my current clients. We've been open a year and now realize that are prices are tooo low! We have four levels of tanning and carry UWE and Mont. Bay beds. I think I tried to be to comparitive to our competitors, but their beds can't compare, and with the price of just a freaking acrylic and to change bulbs, not to mention current electricity prices - I'm not making money - I'm spendin money!!

Prices: Cobras (20 min) 17.99 month; Tropicals (15 min) 27.99 month; Lotus (12 min) 39.99 and S-class (awesome 12min) 49.99.

I'm torn between having decent enough prices to make money, but also not wanting to detour people who call to check prices. HELP!!

We are getting ready to start an eft program. We were thinking that if they decide they want to cancel a couple months into it that we are going to let them, but also charge them 25% of their balance that would be due. Does anybody have any thoughts on that? We were also going to let them freeze their package for $10 a month ONLY if a pregnancy or serious health issue comes up. Has anybody had any trouble with anything like this?

Poindexter,
Keep all of your current clients at the same price and start changing the price structure today. Everyone signing up from today on pays new prices. The new customer does not know what the old prices are so keep that to yourself and just change.
Let the current members know ONLY IF THEY WANT TO CANCEL. Let them know that they will have to come in at the new rate if they cancel. Tell them to just put thier membership on freeze until they are ready to tan again.

OR you could raise the initiation fee to $99 to make up for the shortfall in income.

I am starting an eft program (but keeping my regular monthly prices). I see that most people are drawing the efts on a certain day of the month. With tanners signing up for it all throughout the month, how do you make sure everyone is paid current? ie tanner A comes in and signs up for eft on the jan 6th, we draw eft's on the 15th...so when febuary rolls around, does she just tan for a few days without paying then draw on the 15th? RIght now since we just started doing this, we only have one person on eft (started this today) so i want to make sure i am doing everything correctly.

Oh and thanks for the EFT "agreement" I am using is as mine! =)

You should be able to make the EFT pro-rated so that it calculates on a daily basis and charges accordingly.....so if customer signs up on the 6th but your draw date is on the 15th.....the customer would pay the remaining days from the 6th - 15th which would be say...$5.75 and then the full payment will deduct automatically on the 15th in full for the next month.

Because it's charged in advance....she would pay in advance for the remaining days till the next billing date. The computer should calculate that automatically and charge accordingly........I use Helios and it has that option.

I have a friend who used to work for several gyms: Bally's, Export (big, luxurioius, high pressure, $50 a month) and later Planet Fitness. He loved working for Planet best. No contract, no hassles, no pressure (not perceived at least), got rid of the glitz and only keep the things clients want, and keep the price under $20 (under the radar, as they say). Their cancellations were very low, almost all of their gyms make money (tough industry to do that in). Half the people sign up and pay for three years even if they never darken the door. It's amazing.

Can this work in the tanning industry? Realize that everyone believes they should excercise, and not everyone thinks they should tan regularly. What price would accomplish this? $9.99/month? Will enough people sign up and stay?

Out of the box thinking, but is it doable?

Belle,

Yes, they can be but in your situation, NO. You really need volume to make money with a lesser monthly fee.
