Default Best Way To Cool Down Buck Boosters

I was wondering what everyone has done to cool down their buck booster from generating so much heat that you can barely touch them.

I have a
Jefferson Autoformer
Outdoor Type 3R UL
Feq 60hz
3 phase Amp 50 @ 50% duty 30 % continuous
208 in 235 out

This buck booster is for my KBL 4000.

After about 3 to 4 people in a row (which we all like espcially when they pay) the buck booster was so hot that you could only keep your hand on it for about 7 to 10 seconds, OUCH.

To combat the heat I went to Target and bought 2 small 4 inch fans and installed them over the buck booster. The buck booster is now cool to the touch with a slight hint of warmth.

So what have others done to combat the heat problems.

My point of the matter is that heat kills everything that is electric. The cooler the component is the more efficient that it runs.

Buck Boosters are designed to run hot. You will waist more energy cooloing them then you will save by them running 20 degrees cooler. GE brand seems to run the cooler then most.

OK so I ment to say ....they can tolorate the heat and do run hot. The heat is not an issue. At least not in my 14 years of using them.

It is not for your application. It states 30% duty cycle which means for every 30% of use it needs to be off for 70%.

Buck boosters are not supposed to run hot. If they do then they are undersized.

No they are not. They will get warm and that is normal but should not get like an iron to the touch. Also, cooler components run more efficiently.

Brian, I was wrong in my statement on the transformer. I did not have my glasses on when reading it.

It is a
Jefferson Autoformer
Outdoor Type 3R UL
Feq 60hz
3 phase Amp 50 @ 50% duty 30 amps continuous
208 in 235 out

The bed is the KBL 4000 with 3 pole 40 amp breaker

If this as you have mentioned is not the correct Buck Booster, then correct me for I will admit I am wrong.

It is slightly undersized for 100% duty cycle for that bed. The bed is drawing over 30 amps. The transformer that you have is rated at .75KVA and if the bed you have is on a 40 amp breaker then it should have a 1.0KVA booster good to 40 amps on it.
