I was about to post this myself. I know just for this and my business, i would think real hard about voting for him.
McCain has spot of skin removed as precaution - Yahoo! News BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Republican Sen. John McCain said Monday he had had a small patch of skin removed from his face and biopsied as part of a regular checkup with his dermatologist. "She said that I was doing fine," McCain, a three-time melanoma survivor, told reporters on a presidential campaign visit to an oil rig where he spoke briefly about his proposed energy plan. "She took a small little nick from my cheek, as she does regularly, and that will be biopsied just to make sure everything is fine." The Arizona senator underwent the procedure in Phoenix during a checkup he undergoes every three months. He sported a small bandage on his upper right cheek on his campaign plane but had removed it by the time he spoke with reporters. A small, dark spot stood out on his face. McCain urged people to stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen, particularly during the summer. "If you ever have any slight discoloration please go to your dermatologist or your doctor and get it checked out as soon as possible," he said. Asked if his doctor was confident the problem was nothing serious, McCain replied, "Sure, sure." The fair-skinned Arizona senator, who suffered severe sun damage from his 5 1/2 years in Vietnamese prison camps, gets an in-depth skin cancer check every few months because of a medical history of dangerous melanomas.

I'm not saying I'm for McCain or not.
But bottom line is - melanoma is real. The issue is -- the BROAD SCALE WORRY about it is contrived! As noted - McCain was a: 1. Fair skinned person 2. Subjected to 5.5 years of ridiculous conditions within a Vietnamese POW camp! This is hardly "typical"! HIS melanoma MAY have been caused by OVER exposure during his POW detainment. It may also have been brewing from overexposure during his childhood and perhaps the stress or poor diet or LACK OF EXPOSURE TO SUNLIGHT or other factors that may have taken place during his detainment were the "catalyst" for his condition to develop into melanoma. Maybe it was caused by the combination of living down below in a boat in the Navy (lack of exposure to sunlight) and working on the deck (incredible exposure, reflecting off the water and ship's metal skin). Maybe it runs in his family and has nothing to do with any of the above. The issue is - someone needs to help educate him that "everyone stay out of the sun and wear sunscreen" may not be the best overall health message he can communicate - and perhaps it would be better for him to remain a politician, not try to play physician.

For the most part Republicans believe that we can make decisions that effect us on our own. It is the Democrats that believe that they know best and they need to protect you from yourself.
If you notice, it is usually a Democrat that sponsors anti tanning legislation. As far as I know McCain has never introduced any legislation about tanning and if he were to become President, I think he will have more important things to worry about. |
