Question DSL & Credit Cards

So, my new salon will be opening in 10 days and I find out TODAY that we don't have access to DSL, but we need DSL so that we can run credit cards. What else can I do? Anyone else had the same problem?

Call one of the 10,000 credit card processors.. get yourself a refurbished machine for $200 or $300..

Crisis averted.

Well, we use DSL with Helios now and Helios said that it performs better with DSL. They said we really need to have it. Do any of you use Helios?

Our fax line and DSL go through the same phone line. A third line in the store. Never had an issue with both working together. Credit card machine also is attached to this same line using a splitter..

A phone line show work with most credit card terminal. But if you have to use DSL it will use the phone line, so you should not have a problem. Unless your phone comany doesn't provide DSL. But that is unlikely. You will need a modem inline somewhere. Perhaps that's the problem?

Why do you need DSL for Helios? Are you on Centrix? What version?

you could also go with cable internet. drawbacks would be that it would probably be more expensive and you would likely have to use their business plan rate, but if you need it for your software, you may have to. You do not need dsl or cable for the credit cards, though.

I have helios. We do not use them for credit cards. Our terminal uses the phone lines.

We use Helios and we do not use them for credit cards. We use a phone line and have our own credit card machine.

I don't have Centrix. Its version 11 something. We do use them for our credit cards. The problem is that the salon is opening in a brand new development that currently doesn't have DSL access or cable (cable internet). So our only option is dial up, which seems like it would take forever to run a credit card, or something like the Sprint aircard.

It doesn't take any longer to run a cc through a phone line than through DSL. We've done it through a phone line for years. No problems at all.

It'll take longer to print the receipt than it will for dail up to process the transaction, unless you have a thermal printer.

What they are saying is that Helios and the credit card processing are interlinked into the one program and need high speed to operate. They are not using a separate CC terminal that will run on a phone line, they are unig a stripe reader connected to the computer.

Is this correct? If so, then you will have no choice but to get a separate terminal and run the transactions separately over the phone line like the rest of Small Business America does until your area gets the service.

They can get a sprint aircard and run the transactions...there is no need to purchase a cc machine and run it over the phone connection.
