It still amazes me the way you throw insults around while living in a huge glass house!

James to be fair I've been in Mikes salon and I've met his parents. He has a terrific salon with a lot of potential in a terrific area. His parents are pretty great people who were already invested in the salon with their time. They really like being there and Mike had to get another job in order to pay his bills.

You have a job which pulls in money to pay your bills and support your family and that's what he is able to do now. Knowing his situation I think it was a smart move for all of them. They have a great salon that will bring them in a good income for their retirement and give them something to keep them busy.

I hope his parents do very well and enjoy their new business. My point is Mike has made it a habit of insulting others while his record leaves much to be desired. Its one thing to disagree with someone, but insults take it to a different level.

His sale price, which he listed as just his debt, is over 10 times the amount we paid for our salon while his best month grossed a bit over 2 times ours. From my understanding, his salon has been open about a year longer than ours as well. I'll take my business sense, no matter how idiotic he thinks it is, over his.

I do have a job that pays our bills. This is one of the reasons we were able to buy the business. This is the only way I would recommend anyone getting in to this business.

In my opinion the amount of risk required to build a single salon capable of being a single source of income is way to great. The only way I see tanning being capable of producing a significant amount of income in my area is owning multiple small salons. The risk is low but the combined income of the salons should be pretty good.

Well for one I think you are comparing apples to oranges. You have an existing salon that needs work (you yourself have said that in the past) in an area that could be better. Mike's salon is brand new with brand new build out with new equipment that is top of the line in a brand new strip center which is a very up and coming suburb of Pittsburg. You really cannot compare the two at all. Did Mike bite off more than he could chew? - maybe. He probably would have done OK by himself with a just a bit more capital banked to see him through one more slow season with him working the salon. I still think this is a good plan for all of them. He can always buy it back from them down the road and have his dream.

James I am not putting you guys down at all, I hope you see that. It's just a lot of experience talking and a lot of mistakes that we have made that I don't want anyone else to make.

LOL, You know nothing of my situation and ultimately nothing of what my asking price really covers. I can take less, much less, but why would I? You want to talk about numbers? I'm very happy with the revenue I generated after a hard start in the off season last year. I had a great job opportunity and I'd be stupid not to take it.

My glass is bullet proof!

Maybe you want to comment on Tanning Queen for having to close up shop.

Many salon owners need jobs because of people like you selling everything dirt cheap.

Guys I really don't think we need to stoop this low. We can debate and have conversation without calling names I hope. We are all professionals who own our businesses. Debate is good and healthy. We don't need to be mean about it.

You really don't get it... I paid a whopping $21k for my salon and have total overhead that's a fraction of many salon owners rent. I don't need a high price on my stuff to make an acceptable amount of money.

You can blame me if you want, but this is the way it works around my neck of the woods. Like I said above, my opinion is multiple smaller salons are needed to make the tanning industry worthwhile.

I am curious to see. but I would have been more curious if it he had been open longer and done this so he could compare.

I would pay the salon costs out of my own pocket and literally give everything away during the busy season... This is something we've already considered doing here. If you were my comp, I'd do it now just to prove a point.

Again it is going to depend on your demographics. Since we stabalized our salon with just one instead of three it supports us totally. Yes we have Arbonne but that gives us our extra's. And we don't have any other income as my husband is a SAHD. Our salon pays its own bills and our home bills as well. Arbonne pays for things like putting in a swimming pool, vacations, trips to see our kids, etc. One single salon can do well if in the right demographics and run the right way. You simply cannot judge all salons by the same criteria as your own.

That girl is fiesty!

Wait is this the guy that started out saying he's selling his lotions at $5 over cost? And buying the salon to give his wife something to to? Damn karma.

Ah well, I hope it gets better for ya theislandsuntan.

James instead of closing, if you have the money, why not just hire someone for minimum wage to run your salon those two extra days per week, keep your customer service level high and still give Brandi some time off? Just a thought.
