I've threatened it but the threat alone got them to leave. I have a silent alarm though that I am ready to push at a moments notice if needed.

It's actually the second time I've had to call. First one was in April. Girl passed out in the bed. Pretty sure she had been on something that had kept her up for days, and crashed when she got in the bed. Police arrested her. Yesterday was just a crazy lady. Impossible to reason with, or pretty much just have a normal conversation! Looney Toons! Police thought she was nuts too. I have only had my salon open for 7 months, and I am shocked that I have already had to call in the cops twice! I didn't know the tanning business would be so wild. I would love to hear some of your stories. Pretty sure I am not on crack-head avenue???

Sandi has some good crackhead stories. She has found teeth and such. She is on vaca now though I'm sure she will be happy to share when she gets back!

Fingers Crossed......
Haven't had to the call the police once for in store issues - lots in the parking lot, but none inside.
We have been open for 20 months now...

I've only called once and it was on an ex-employee. She was so bizzare.

So one day I get woken up by the alarm company telling me the alarm was going off at 5 am. I get to the salon and my front door is smashed to pieces. My neighbor at the time owned a coffee and donut place so she got there at 5 am to open and thought my door looked funny. She walked right through the broken glass and set off the motion detector.

The computer was smashed, cash drawer on the floor, about $85 in cash gone and coin all over the floor. We (police and us) couldn't figure out how they smashed the door, got all of the way around the counter and messed the computer up without being seen by the motion detector. It was impossible. So later that day I started thinking about it and realized that it was probably the employee from the night before. So I called the detective and told him what I thought. So they ended up arresting her. She had done the computer and damage the night before after closing. Set the alarm and locked the door and then about 2 am her boyfriend and she came back and threw this huge rock through the door. The rock didn't set off the motion detector.

So anyway, about 6 weeks later I get a call from my girl who is working. She said, hey just thought I'd let you know that Jill is in tanning right now (the thief). I'm like WHAT!!! She said that Jill told her that if she didn't let her tan that she would cause her all sorts of trouble. Well, on my way there (a mile is all) I call the police. So this was so funny. Both myself and the police officer are standing outside of her door when she opens it up from tanning. The look on her face was priceless. What nerve. Made her pay for the tanning and then they took her away because she wasn't allowed on the property.

That was enough excitement to last us a long time.

I love how you call her bizarre. I would have alot of other names for her!! I thought alamrs were usually wired into the glass so if the glass breaks, then the alarm goes off? Or is that just in the movies?

Kath.. That is a great story.

Ive had to call the police on many occasions. Don't question yourself when you think its time to call just call. One warning and thats it.
We towed some tow trucks from the lot once ( towing company rented a house next door) and we had given them many warnings... Of all people they should know that they cant park on private property. It was funny seeing five tow trucks getting towed and 3 personal cars. Had to deal with 4 heavy set guys once it was done and they had circled me in the parking lot. I was like .. lets get it on big mouths.. who's first. Employee called police and they were more concerned if I had them towed instead of the owner of the property.. Found out the towing company towed for the state. Talk about good old boy scratching.
I swear I could write a book about all the crap that Ive put up with in the past 15 years doing this.. Just had to fire two employees and call the police for stealing..

Well that issue is still in court. DA pressed charges after the report.

But I have had a guy (my age) come out, naked and sit on my couch. Wasn't sure how to handle that. All I coul think was his balls were on my couch. That was fun. Everyone else thought it was funny except me. He was dead serious Marital issues etc. Guess he wanted me to help him end it.

What, if anything, do you have behind the counter to protect yourself and your employees?

I have a silent alarm button. I also have pictures behind the counter of all the local sex offenders (you can get them online) so that way we'll know if one walks in. When I leave, I take most of the excess money with me so there is never that much cash in here.

I also have lotion and scissors available for throwing/
