Default Local Area Buyers Group

Does anyone work with other local salons to form a sort of buyers group in an attempt to get better prices from vendors?

We have two distubutors near us and I'm thinking if our salon along with a few others got together and formed something like a buyers group we could approach them in hopes of getting a better discount.

All salons involved would buy most, if not all from one or both distributors. More volume usually equals better pricing...

We have purcahsed through them. I'm wondering if something could be created in a local environment and worked through a single vendor. Our nearest vendor will deliver the same day if the order is big enough. Plus we'd deal with a single person thats nearby.

I have thought about that before. Not only for product purchasing, but think of the minimal investment to advertising with 4 salons splitting the bill.
