Default new salon owner needs advice on sale per person

I purchased a salon in April, I feel that I am pulling people in the door good but I don't think my staff is selling very good to the customers. I'm looking for other salon owners to give me an idea on what I should be expecting on average sales wise per person. And I mean on everything form packages, single visits, lotions etc. Just an overall average. Someone told me $10-$20, but I'm not sure that we are in comparable markets and if I should expect that much per person. To give you an idea of my market is our base single visit is $7, a week in a base is $12, and upgrades on average are $4. Anyones ideas are appreciated.

Our new salon we opened in Mar of last year. For the first 12 months, we are averaged $26.39 per tan. That includes everything.

Markets mean nothing. Your equipment mix and your pricing structure does!

It depends on your bed mix...if you have HP your PPA will be higher. My friend has a bigger salon with bigger higher priced beds...she should be higher than me, but I blow her PPA out of the water since we sell better than her team and she is always discounting lotions.

Well, we just opened our NEW salon a few days ago and we are averaging $25-$30 PCA (per client average). This is bc EVERYONE is having to purchase packages, lotions, etc. However, our existing salon which has been in business for 4 years usually averages around $7-$8 PCA. We strive for $9 and my girls know that if their average is not $6 or more they are on probation. If its below $5 and they have had ample training they are fired!

are you talking about per tanner or per customer for the year...makes a difference. Your per customer should be higher...the per tanner i figure out by dividing my sales by the amount of tans we did for the month or year.

per customer (per year) has always been a more valuable piece of data to me. why do you do per tanner?

I do per tanner as a goal for my staff. They cant control how many people come in a day, but they can control how much each tanner brings in. Makes for a better goal than a flat goal of $x per shift.

Minimum PPA for slow season should be targeted at $10 per person.

In busy season, you should be looking at a higher minimum like $15.

Being that it's slow season right now, you should be making at least $10 per person average (PPA)

So if you are tanning 45 people a day at an average of $10ppa, you should be bringing in at least $450 in sales total.

Anything over $10 a person is good during slow season.

Anything under $10 a person, and you need to start making some sales to pay the rent.

Din, wouldn't this be different for beds with/without HP's and such? I'm having a really good August but my PPA isn't that high.

that's a big negative. $10 is minimum for a tanning salon.

I have HP and my PPA is over $19 for Aug and i'm having a so-so month....see the difference.

if you don't have the upgrade beds for them to pay and bring up your sales...then it doesn't matter what kind of specials you offer...it's still going to be $7 tans.

Only way out of that is to buy better beds.

I have an upgrade bed but its only a $4 upgrade, I'm working on the new bed thing but I need a really good one and they cost money and I'm scared to spend my xtra $$ during JASON. Plus I think there will be electrical issues. I'm hoping to find a good used one around December and get rid of a standup and a base bed and just put a nice VHR in, hopefully my electrical will handle that
