Default Anybody have any good lawsuit stories?

I was just browsing and read a few posts that mentioned salons getting sued, and it got me curious...
Does anybody know any salons that have had lawsuits filed against them?
If so what for and what were the end results?

the previous owner of my salon was sued by a client - she happened to be a legal secretary.
she wanted to go 20 minutes in a newly lamped 160w bed and even tho the employee argued her time with her - she still allowed her to go that long and the owner got put through the wringer...

...not really that good of a story but it's the only one i got.

Usually it's a broken facial glass that torches someone's face.
I just heard of one going on, where a client stuck her finger in the body cooling fan vent of a bed, chopped off the tip of her finger.

I had a lady take me to court to refund her EFT's fee's. She hadn't been in to tan in over a year at $19.99 per month. The judge took one look at the contract and said, this is a valid contract. She said "it's just a stupid tanning salon" and he read her the riot act. It was hilarious.

Wow! Those were some good ones. I like to be reminded of what to watch out for.
The other day I came out of airbrushing someone and there was a tiny dog sitting behind the counter and another customer came and shoved her face at the dog (dogs are pretty smart cuz this lady is a little cookoo) and than I heard a growl and a "it BIT me!"
Instantly images of a courtroom and lawsuits flooded my head. So I had a reminder meeting with the girls to reiderate the fact that there are no pets a loud.
Ps. the lady was fine it didn't do anything to her it just growled and TRIED to bite.

Not tanning related, but a guy that lives 3 doors down from me went in his attic and step off the floor joists on the sheet rock and fell through. He sued the building contractor and won.

How stupid can you be to step directly on sheetrock! He won a much of $$$ for being stupid!!

beach.. it was probably code that plywood in that county had to be in the attic for such a reason.
Kath. Do mind sending me a copy of your eft contract so I can compair it to mine. I get at least 5 people a year saying they are going to sue the salon for such reasons. Never had anyone fullfill their threat because I say look at the contract that you signed.
This year has been the worst for people wanting to sue. Yeahh. Sue for 20 bucks.. Ill go get my lawyer they say.. Ok who is your lawyers name ? Um.. Well I have to go get one.. uh huh.. He will want a retainer of $600 for a case like this...You want to do all that for $20 , ok. Go for it.. In the mean time ill send you out a copy of what you signed. Never hear back from them. tanme@comcast.net

Sent Jim!

Yeah the lady was really funny to watch, especially when the judge looked at her and said "just a tanning salon? This is a business lady and a business contract." It was really hard to keep a straight, serious face at that one.

We currently own a tanning salon and hair salon-we have our hair salon stylist fill out a lease with us. If they break the lease--we take them to court, they say fine take me to court--but in the lease it is stated that if the stylists takes me to court they must pay for my lawyer--boy that shuts them up--and piece of mind for me.

I had a customer punch me in the face on the way out of the door after trying to steal his customer card with his signature stating no refunds....
Of course I beat the shi# out of him and had to go in and call an ambulance (he was bleeding badly) and of course the cops (first one to call is innocent).
He sued and claimed that the real damages were that he could no longer watch the NFL or Championship Wrestling because the violence was too real for him. (really)
Needless to say the lawsuit was dropped and because the attack took place in the store the insurance company paid for all the legal service. Next time I will just take the punch because the hassle and fear of losing my business was not worth fighting back.

Jim, code in this area only requires plywood at the entry access to the attic. The house was inspected, and passed.

But either way, it was sheetrock. Now I would expect to have to tell my children not to walk on sheet rock. But I assume an adult would know better.
