Default Finally a little growth!

August is up 1500 from last year. Hopefully it will close at 2 grand up. After a sub par june and july this is finally some good news. Hopefully the rest of Jason will stay at this pace. It would be nice to have an extra 8 grand not leaving anyones pockets this year.

Putting your mom and dad in control I think has served the business well Mike. Sounds like it was a great decision.

I am up over last year, but nothing to bragg about. I hope the rest of JASON is a little better. Does it matter what part of the country you are in? Everyone talks about the bed mix, what is the best bed mix?

Best thing I ever did was eliminate some base beds and bring in some upgrades.

I'm still not sure they are the best fix for sales, but they are the best fix for management. Although a monkey can sell better than my employees.

Ultimately, I think the salon is just back on track from where I left it and going through a businesses natural growth after a year. I don't want to take anything away from my parents, they have filled my spot nicely. NO ONE CAN REPLACE ME THOUGH

August is definitely up..and looking great for fall. can't wait.

That is our goal here too..
Get rid of 2 more base beds.
They had 7 when I purchased. We are down to 4 now and need to get rid of at least one more.

Kathe,
If gross sales were above 300k before the 28% increase you deserve a big round of applause.

high gross sales are always nice, but lower sales with low monthly costs can also be nice.

I'll be happy when my salon is showing a 70k profit.

Some of you want to mock me for having my parents take it over, but the truth is. I'm doing what I planned for the most part. I NEVER wanted to be in the salon as much as I was. I NEVER intended for the salon to be my income. A 2nd source yes. Heck even if it only gives me 500 more a month, that's still better than 0 on top of my income. My parents offered to take it over because over the past year it became a part of their life almost as much as mine. They didn't have to take it over, but it was hard trying to run the business when I'm 4.5 hours away. It surely keeps a young retired couple busy. I don't think my father should be retired in the first place and my mom had no choice, but that is a whole differnt topic. So I think they made a good move and it keeps me from telling my dad to get a job. My parents may decide to stay involved as they are retired and it could give them an excellent source of extra income as well. If I'm offered a nice price during season, I'll have to talk it over with them to see what they want to do. Or maybe we need to chance one more peak season to see how growth is this year.

As the business grows, the chance of getting a good manager will increase, and that is ultimately the goal. I'm hardly going to consider it absentee ownership.

So before you see me as a failure, which I'm definatly not, think about what is happening at your business. Do you enjoy being there 5,6 or maybe even 7 days out of the week taking home no pay just counting down the days until peak season starts so you have some money? No thanks, I'm thankful I have a family who probably likes the business more than I do right now. They haven't been tainted by the crookedness of this industry and I want to shield them from that.

For those that truly wish me well, I thank you.

quiettime, FL may be one of the worst places to be in business right now. According to some you should start to see a little more business starting now, so keep your fingers crossed.

There are other salons within one mile, at least two are for sale. I want to try to get together with them and contact the news paper to start running articles about the benefits of Vit D. We are called the "Sunshine State", we should promote moderate tanning.

I just hope I don't start to think like you...

A healthy 59 year old should not be retired especially when he did not make millions and definatly should not have retired at 55. No reason what soever. My father is someone who can't sit still so retirement wasn't a good answer. Retiring from his job was good, but not retiring from the working world.

Why do you always have to throw in the personal attacks? WTF is wrong with you?

First off...Mike shouldn't of had to explain himself, just like TQ never should have had to either. But he felt the need to. Your kid would be lucky if he turned out to be like Mike.

No one receives special treatment from me. Doesn't make me love my father any less.
